I'm interested in Exeter because I want a challenging education and I want to become independent. In 8th grade I got all A's. My reading scores are off the chasart, rest of my scores are average or above average. In 8th grade I was a part of the National Juniors Honor Society, I also got English student of the year award. Now in the 9th grade I get ( Read more... )

I loved Exeter's GSA back in the day and I am told it still exists.

P.S.
Going to Exeter was one of the best decisions I made in my life. I love that place, although it helps if you're kind of a type-A personality and like following rules. The only downside is that Exeter was so great it made my first college experience rather a disappointment.

Exeter's GSA was still going pretty damn strong when I graduated in 06. As far as the arts, music is well supported at Exeter, with Visual Arts and Theater lagging slightly, probably due to lack of funding (Whose bright idea was it to build Fisher out of corrugated metal? Also, the "could I get in" questions aren't really appropriate to ask on this comm, or other school related communities. The vague generalities we can offer about the admissions process can be just as easily and more successfully gleaned from the website. In summation: we're not the admissions board, and our guess is probably not as good as yours.

Sounds like you've got a lot going for you--I attended Exeter the same time as galalefay, and I'll vouch for what she said. I'll add that I loved it fiercely. Though there were indeed big ups and downs, and some of my friends had more downs than ups, it's a unique and exciting sort of world.

As far as college admissions goes, yes, challenging courses you get low grades in do ding your record. However, colleges know that Exeter isn't just the high school down the street when it comes to workload and level of maturity required, so as long as you do reasonably well, not having a 4.0 isn't going to keep you out of a good college.

(That said: public schools can be awesome academically and socially, so unless your particular school district is in some trouble, don't think you can't do great things there.)
