OKAY SO LET'S TALK SONS OF ANARCHY.
i feel like i have to start this off with a disclaimer of sorts? unlike most other people i know, i had no problem with season 3. i was entertained throughout and really that's all i need. maybe that makes me an unsophisticated viewer but whatever, i was perfectly satisfied with most of the season. my only real complaint is that i'm not 100% sure i understood the reasoning behind all the stuff with the irish, mostly because i couldn't understand half of what those fuckers said. but honestly, i don't care! so, that being said, finale!
01. i loved it, for starters.
02. lots of people have been bothered over various things with jax & tara this season. as usual, i am not among them. i think all of their actions over the season, even when they've been irrational, have made sense for their characters, so i'm cool. i love them and i'm glad they're back on track, and i don't care that we didn't get a scene of jax groveling and tara making him beg for forgiveness or whatever. the stakes have been too high for those kind of dramatics, imo.
03. i hope the baby's a girl. just because jax and a little girl = cutest!
04. chibs killing jimmy o was fucking AWESOME. when he whipped out those knives i was like "fuck yesssssss!!!" in my living room.
05. but opie with stahl was even better. ryan hurst is just outstanding. he was scary and sad and triumphant and resigned and just...!!! so good. and goddamn but stahl had that coming. when she told the club that jax made a deal i wanted to lunge through my tv at her.
06. sooooo pleased that the club was in on jax's "deal" all along. i LOVE twist endings so i don't mind at all that the audience was deceived...the "ohmygod!" factor and the happiness that i felt at realizing the boys pulled off a hell of a long con totally canceled out any "kurt sutter, that's cheating!" feelings i might have had. (which i didn't, but i understand why some people would.)
07. i was really scared for unser at a couple of points and i'm so glad he's okay. i wonder what'll happen with him now? will he just be a friend of the club? i assume he still has his trucking business or whatever.
08. i'm also glad that kozik survived. i had/have no idea what the plan is for his character, but i've enjoyed him so much and i'd love to see him stick around. i hope he and tig can make up someday. they were totally bff before the missy incident, i bet. (which, i said this on twitter but the fact that their giant rift is OVER A DOG just makes my life. i love it, and frankly it makes much more sense tig-wise that it's a dog and not a woman.)
09. i really enjoy kurt sutter as otto. i think he has a very...sort of appealing presence on screen. it's hard to explain. he never plays otto like a real tough guy, and altho i know both otto and sutter are kind of volatile, he comes across as rather gentle and i just think it's interesting. otto would be one of my very favorite minor characters even if KS wasn't the showrunner.
10. the hamlet-ness with clay and gemma could be interesting, but i'm not sure yet. on the one hand, the inner tensions of the club/family always make for great tv. on the other hand, JT's death has been a big question mark since the series began, especially since the hamlet comparison has been there all along. so do they follow through with it? or is it a fakeout? and if it IS true, how the hell do they come back from that? i seem to recall that in hamlet just about everyone ends up dead. not much of a show if they kill all the characters. hmm.
11. so the only SAMCRO guys currently not incarcerated are chibs, opie and piney, right? (and kozik and the prospects are around, but not members.) i wonder what they'll be doing for the next 14 months or so. i can't imagine it being easy to run an MC with only 3 members. especially with no more unser (at least not as a cop) and with, presumably, hale as mayor. i guess it's a good thing that SAMCRO is (i think?) currently on decent terms with everyone (mayans, the irish, etc).
12. in conclusion: see #1. loved it!
