So, I have migraines.  I brought over a lot of prescription medicine with me last year but it ended up not being as effective for me as it is for my mother (who has taken this same kind for her migraines).  As a result i have had to take two pills (which is still a safe dosage) whereas my mom only needs one.  And so my medicine runs out twice as ( Read more... )

All their ibuprofen-based medicines have caffeine in them. I'd take it for my worst headaches. You might also check into International Pharmacy for your regular migraine medicine. Downside: You have to pay full price, as they don't accept insurance. Upside: You also don't need a prescription. They accept payment via bank transfer within Japan, too. I always had to get help with that, as my Japanese was lousy (and getting lousier), but it wasn't too complicated.

Thanks a lot for the website info!

My Japanese is ok and usually I don't have too many problems. I have a Japanese co-worker who takes migraine medicine but right now it's summer vacation and I won't see her again for a few weeks. I wish I'd asked her what kind of medicine she uses.

I may go to the hospital here to see what happens, but at least now I know there is a way to get American medicine if the Japanese stuff doesn't work for me.

I agree with above. Just go to a clinic if they are bad and let them know what meds you have used before. If you write down the med name they will be able to look it up and find something similar that might also work. A lot cheaper than ordering meds online which also has the risks of being confiscated since they aren't suppoed to be imported. (Though the above site I think is Japanese not all are, and you NEVER want to risk importing drugs that might cause you problems later. Was suggested that for birth control but 3000 monthly for several months supply at a women's clinic is fine by me)

My husband gets migraines occasionally (like, really bad turn-off-all-the-lights and don't make a single sound or he might vomit migraines) and he takes a ibuprofen gel capsule called RINGL IB that works for him. Box looks like this:

Thanks for the photo, I'll check these out.

I don't always get them SO intensely, but occasionally I do, so it's good to know that this has been effective.
