Hulu Japan

Has anyone tried Hulu Japan site? Is it worth it? I currently use a VPN to access the US Hulu site but I'd be willing to pay the 980/month if there are actually good tv shows and movies on the Japanese site.

I don't know if it has gotten better, but when it first came out it had a very limited selection of only older seasons of shows that were popular in Japan. It might have gotten better, but at the time, it didn't appear to be worth the price.

I browsed their selection recently and wasn't impressed enough to sign up. I remember they had The Walking Dead on there, which I wanted to see, but nothing else that really appealed to me (or that I hadn't seen already).

I like it, but a big part of that is because it's easy to watch with my husband, who needs Japanese subs for most stuff. So compared to renting DVDs at Tsutaya, 980yen pays for itself pretty quickly.

We have a PS3, so we can watch everything through our TV and if your phone is supported, you can watch on the train or what-have-you. The selection is a bit hit or miss depending on what you're into but it has been improving over the last few months (HBO dramas, Arrested Development, Mad Men etc.)

In any case, they have a free two week trial so you can see if it works for you.
