((OOC note: A Servant and a Master, in FSN, sometimes have visions about their partner's past. This is it. There are HEAVY SPOILERS FOR FATE/STAY NIGHT: UBW ROUTE. This is totally skippable, but if you're interested, you've been warned.))
Flames. If it was an effect or a magic trick then it would be almost exciting to watch. It was engulfing everything in sight, setting the entire area ablaze. Like a hole in the ground was ripped open and Hell came out in an instant. Anyone watching likely couldn't help but open their mouth in amazement at the sight. It was beautiful. It was horrific.
The best part?
It was all real.
Not just an effect, but reality.
Not a magic trick, but something that was actually happening.
Or at least happened.
Between the roaring fire and the sound of buildings crashing, mixed with the sounds of victims screaming and crying for help, was a young child. He was walking amongst the victims, past the rubble and through the fire. As he walked he made himself deaf to the cries and screams of everyone around him, as they begged to be saved. He knew that if he turned around or even acknowledged their pleas then he could not face himself in the mirror again without knowing he let them die. So, he did not acknowledge their existence and pretended that the screams and cries and the pleading for mercy were just part of his imagination. That way he would be able to look at himself again after everything was over. If he even survived.
At some point he collapsed to the ground, his wounds finally sinking in and his body almost completely open. You could see inside of his chest cavity if you dared to look. As he stared at the sky he resigned to death and apologized. As he apologized his entire body felt rejuvenated and brought back to life. The only thing he could see was a man, tearing up and thanking him for being alive.
To the boy it was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.
The scene shifts to a hospital room, where the boy is talking to the man who saved him. His bandages were mostly removed and he could now eat and move without the need of a hospital attendant. The man says he wants to adopt the child as his son and the boy agrees, not wanting to go to the orphanage. He trusts the man, but does not know exactly why. The man with uncombed hair looks like a disheveled mess of a person, with tattered clothes and broken eyes. But even then the boy agrees. As the man begins to pack what little belongings the boy has, he turned to him once again.
"Oh, I forgot to mention something important. I have to tell you one thing before you come with me. Is that okay?"
The boy nods.
"Yeah. To start off with, I'm a sorcerer."
The boy barely missed a beat.
"--Wow, you're awesome."
The scene flickers. It's now late night, a few years later. The boy and the man are sitting together, admiring the night sky. The man was regularly out of the country, so the boy was left alone with a family friend at the large house. Silence was shared between the two, until suddenly:
"When I was a child, I wanted to be a superhero."
It was sudden, but the boy was amazed at his father. And then spoke with anger.
"What? What do you mean by 'wanted'? Did you give up?"
"Yes, unfortunately. Being a hero is a time-limited thing, and it becomes hard to call yourself that when you grow up. I wish I'd found that out earlier."
"I see. Then I guess it couldn't be helped."
"Yeah. It really couldn't be helped."
Then the boy speaks with determination in both voice and heart.
"Yeah, it can't be helped, so I'll take your place.
It's impossible since you're an adult, but it should be all right for me. Let me take on your dream.
--I'll make it come true."
The man laughed and breathed in contently.
"Yeah--I'm relieved."
It didn't even occur to the boy until a few hours later that the man who saved his life had died right there. But maybe it did, as tears fell from his eyes for no real reason.
The dream ends there.
It begins there.
It ends there.
It goes back to there.
To that one moment in time.
[Public Call A]
[The voice is calm, and the call is made at around 7~8pm at night. The message is a short and simple one: she doubted that the older woman would have wanted it to drag.] To those who knew doctor Eirin Yagokoro, she has returned to her native world of Gensokyo, and is no longer in Mayfield.
[Public Call B]
[This will be issued earlier during the week, but definitely on a different day from when the announcement about Eirin has been made. The tone is serious and businesslike, which may be hard to pin down to whom the voice belongs to.]
They may be simple horror stories to some, but to those who are still unaware, please take warning that vampires are very much real in Mayfield. Feeding on drones should be sufficient sustenance for them, but some nevertheless choose to prey on actual people as well. The chances of them actually attempting to turn a normal person and its success rate are likely very low, though they would nevertheless remain to be dangerous to the common people. Depending on their world of origin, they also vary in kinds and defining traits, but a common factor would be that they all drink blood, and likely favor nighttime compared to day.
To any who may or may not have personally dealt with a vampire here, I would like to ask about what you know of them. Any information that you may be willing to share would be helpful. If you would prefer to discuss in person, the Church of Salvation is available in the afternoon before 6pm to do so. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
[Private Call ; Filtered to Tohno Shiki]
Doctor Yagokoro has left her herbs and medicine in my care, so starting from now on, if need be, I will be treating your anemia, among other possible illnesses. Please accept that.
[Action]
[1. Following the public phonecall A, Ciel will be at 342 Brady Lane, Eirin's old place. She left nothing remarkable other than her herbs, which Ciel has been taught how to use during the short period of apprenticeship that she has been subjected to. If after that call, you decided to come to check things out for yourself, you'll find her there.
The drones? Nowhere to be seen. She didn't do anything, seriously!
2. Anytime during the week, it's in the afternoon, and if you stop by the Church, the nun with the short blackish-blue hair is in. Do you drop by for a visit? She should be a common sight by now; she really was there quite often. You can also come following the announcement made during the PSA phonecall B; she's open for talk either way.
3. For something more casual! It's recess time at the high school, and your local French teacher is seated on a flight of stairs by a door, munching on a curry bread bun. A bag next to her indicates more, and there's also a mug of steaming tea. She seems happy enough to just supervise. ...Approach? You can try asking for a bun. She will be reluctant. :V
4. To anyone who remembers
scripture-7th? She's stranded at 1127 Taylor Road while Ciel is busy elsewhere. You have the spiritual abilities strong enough to see her, or already met Nanako before? You may catch her by the porch or somewhere in the yard. She can't stray from the house, but she can move around. Or if you're a spiritual entity yourself you can just materialize in the house and chill with her. Do so? Ciel might intervene later, as per usual.]
