Your work ethic is very impressive. I know it can be pretty daunting to look at that many years of school ahead of you, but it's worth it.
I also completely agree about going to school later in life. If I had tried any of this stuff when I was 18 i'd never have pulled it off. Not even close. Going back to school in my mid-20s is one of the best moves i've ever made.
Seriously, I think everyone should go back to school in their 20's. It's such a different experience, and the whole mentality behind it is different. For instance, I'm in school now because I want to be, not because I am expected to be. It changes everything.
Your praise humbles me. Secretly, I've always thought your own vocabulary surpasses mine. Honestly I've never aspired to a grand vocabulary; I aspire to creative use of what I already know rather than learning new words. For instance, I like to word splice: ramifications + repercussions = ramipercussions (I love that word!).
I've also been inspired by something Mark Twain said: "The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference the lightning and the lightning bug." As a creative writer I could not agree more. When I read, I find myself coming across passages in which I think to myself that such and such words would be orders of magnitude more powerful than the words they chose, and it disappoints me. I try to remind myself that is simply my opinion, but... the disappointment remains. That being said, I just look for the right word.
As far as the being a hero goes, well, I am pretty damn heroic ;)

1. Your vocabulary
2. Your unwillingness to ever do anything halfway.
3. Everything.
You're kind of my hero in a lot of ways.
