Conservatives, Give it a Rest

Every time I'm tempted to believe liberals have a special claim to pettiness and divisiveness, someone always proves me wrong.

Granted, there have been some voices of reason. Dennis Miller is one, but he's a moderate at best to begin with. But the general tone from not just the media doofuses like Limbaugh, but some of my conservative friends, is

It's our duty as citizens (bloggers and pundits still rate as such) to let our leaders know where we stand. Obama's stimulus package is nothing more than forcing all of us to be wards of the state and thus slaves to the government. And yes, comparing the plans of Obama to slavery is inflammatory, but when we're conscripted into government service, told what doctors to go to, how to spend the money we're given, etc., freedom is no longer on the table and we are slaves. I'm personally glad that the average Obama supporter voted to get themselves a goody bag of mortgage payments, forgiven student loans and a full gas tank. I just wish it wasn't at the cost of freedom.
