Most people in third-world countries, I suspect, toil under far worse bullshit and oppression from politics and corporations than we do. Frankly, I'd rather be seduced into buying a $156.99 pair of shoes than have to work in a sweatshop making them for $0.09 a day. Just saying; your highly idealized perspective of a closeness to nature compensating for a lack of any sort of standard-of-living may just be another byproduct of your being blinded and brainwashed by our utterly corrupt society. ;)

Somehow life seems less crappy when you're standing in line for a new motherboard when you think about how you could be working in a sweatshop factory back home.

Yes, yes that's true. Heh, I guess for me I'm going back home in a week, insofar as home is Toronto. Uh, which it is, since I was born there. So... Yeah. I think it'll be fun. I'll try to get myself laid, at least, while I'm there.
