i got a job at ubx again. i learned from last time that they're probably not going to need me for the second week of classes, so i'm working like 18 hours after my finals are done, and then something around 24 or 25 hours during the first week of classes. they said they might be able to squeeze me in for the whole summer, which would be awesome. i' ( Read more... )

Why don't you just do the etrade mock account until you have more money anyway? I don't know that it makes sense to make $1000 and immediately put it in the stock market, especially if you don't even know what you're doing and just want to play around and figure it out. You could put all of that money into a high yield savings account instead, while you are getting used to etrade (if you are really stuck on the idea of putting your money in the market). I've made over $150 on my money in my savings account already - that's about 6 months or so of interest.

i intend on opening up a high-yeild savings account if i have enough money to spare. i also want to start putting money into an ira as soon as possible.

etrade doesn't have a mock-account, it something that i would have to do myself on paper.
