.H.O.W. .T.O. .P.L.A.Y.
Notes on how the RP will work.
1. There is 1 OOC community (
exsomnia) and THREE IC communities: one for the Prima Luce, one for the Penombra, and one for the neutral citizens of the city (
thosethatwake,
thosethatdream, and
thosethatsleep, respectively).
2. The players post IC entries to the communities with their character journals, BUT -- only the neutral community is public and open to everyone. The Prima Luce and Penombra communities are LOCKED, meaning that only Prima Luce can join the Prima Luce network, and only Penombra can join the Penombra network. However, everyone may WATCH, just in case someone leaks. It is UP TO THE PLAYERS to f-lock their entries in the Prima Luce and Penombra comms. If something is submitted as a public post, all information in it is considered leaked.
3. Try not to use actual Japanese/other languages in your posts. A lot of fandom characters are from Japan, but English is the language we all have in common and not all of us can even see the text. If you must use Japanese/other languages, make sure to provide accurate translations. (Case's note: No seriously. Your mods can read/write a total of probably 6~7 languages between them, including most of the Asian ones. Babelfish won't cut it, trust me.)
4. Logs should be posted in the locations they occur in. NOTE that logs that take place in public places the city ARE viewable to everybody, since it's easy enough to happen to overhear someone. So watch what you say or go somewhere safer to talk. Logs can happen in paragraph OR comment form, inserting actions into conversations assumed to be happening face-to-face.
5. Each player can only have either Prima Luce OR Penombra characters (neutral characters are open to everybody). basically, you choose a faction and join it before you ever start playing. However, if your neutral ends up ICly BECOMING part of the opposite faction, that's okay. Also, if your character is acting as a spy and gets access to the other faction's communication lines, they'll be granted access to the other network as well. But, of course, you're going to have to show proof that you roleplayed out joining/getting there/however you want it to work for this to happen.
6. No character may start out as a spy. A character may start out wanting to BECOME a spy, but they do not already have access to the other faction's network. Traitors are allowed, but remember -- in order to have one, your character has to start out on the side that they're betraying.
7. Plot happens MOSTLY in SECRET. If the Penombra are plotting to bomb one of the Prima Luce buildings, the Prima Luce will NOT know about it unless plans are leaked or they have a spy in the system (and vice versa). The mods will watch all three communities and post to
thosethatsleep with news (i.e. Building 456 just fell); so there will be some PLOT-godmoding, but only for the sake of realism. However, the mods will make sure that there is/was ample time for either side to have discovered and stopped such plots -- but it is up to the characters to actually DO so. Don't know what the other characters are doing? Post a taunt in the New York comm, see if they drop any hints, try to bribe someone for information, kidnap someone in the know, et cetera.
8. YES, we are serious about this. Please do not share information on what one side is doing with OOC friends of the other side. We want all the plot-events to be completely unexpected for most people, just like it would be in real life -- in fact, we encourage OOC friends to join OPPOSITE sides, to add some mystery and fun to the game.
