question: how does one grow out a short haircut into something shaggier without going through an embarrassing pseudo-mullet phase? i can do the front but the back is a whole other story.

pictures would be appreciated!

hmmm...I don't know. I just wait and wait and wait, hoping one day I'll wake up and have rapunzel hair. Sorry I can't help you, I just wanted to post a comment saying yours bangs in your new user picture are really slanky and slinkster cool;)

thanks! it's funny because that picture is over a year old, and my hair hasn't looked anything like that for about a year. but everyone keeps complimenting it now. man. i'll have to revive that haircut sometime.

hey, yumi! well, i went for the bowl-cut option until it is finally chin-length. however, bowl-cut is not the most attractive in the world.

hope everything is going well. good luck w/finals!

i had craaaaazy dreams last night and in one of them annie was playing you and you (the you that wasn't you) had grown out your hair and when i first saw you it was big and blonde and shaggy and in the next scene it was a living, breathing, expanding mullet!

quite frightening, so i'd recommend the non-mullet regimen.

Hey Yumi, I can relate to this very dilemma. Basically, what I'm doing is keeping the front long, and cutting the back to a line and lowering the line as my hair gets longer. Does that make any sense? I think it makes sense if you know someone who cuts hair.

hi katia! yeah, it does make sense. i mean that's sorta what i'm trying to do. except that it's not quite long enough yet. i keep getting bored of growing it out and just snipping it all off again. i need to learn some patience, or something.

Barettes/clips are the key to patience (and something fun to play with as it grow out). Or at least they were for me. (The picture is me, but seven years ago. Today it's past my shoulders. But next week it won't be!)

tell your hairstylist that you want grow out the front but keep the back short. kind of like an a-line bob until the front of your hair catches up with the back. i have this mullet problem all the time.
