Pockets are Uncomfortable 4/4
Heroes/Polly Pocket | Sylar, Polly
PG16 | 1060 words

The scenery never seemed to change as the perky teen skipped ahead, guiding him towards the large looping tracks of the roller coaster in the distance.

Sylar seethed silently as he kept his eyes on the brightly green hills, watching out for any more chipper teenagers. He didn’t care that they didn’t have a power, they needed to die.

Suddenly a football flew out of nowhere, landing in Sylar’s hands as he halted, staring down at it. The sound of a different voice rang in his ears and he looked up, seeing a blonde boy running towards him.

“Thanks!” he exclaimed, stopping his jog as he took the ball from his hands. Sylar remained silent, shooting a nasty glare in the boy’s direction, although it never seemed to phase him as he smiled, noting the man’s wardrobe, “You’re wearing a lot of black for a day like this.”

Sylar narrowed his eyes, his lips parting to retort to his statement but he was cut off by Polly’s shrill voice, “RICK!” she shrieked, running towards him as she threw her hands around his neck, grabbing him into a hug.

She pulled back, turning towards Sylar as she smiled another gleaming grin. “Sylar, this is Rick!” The glare he shot him disappeared within seconds and he threw out a faked smile, “’Sup?”

Rick looked a bit taken aback by Sylar’s greeting but responded awkwardly, “… Not much… you?”

“Just looking for gemstones.”

His statement drew an uncomfortable response as the two teens stared at him oddly. Sylar ignored them, letting his head bob around the park, his eyes fixed mainly towards the ground. As he searched the scenery, his hand tightened around the football still in his grasp and noticed a distinct absence of the rubber material.

Looking down, he found the round, purple jewel nestled in his palm. He lifted it up to view, responding with a sarcastic grin, “Wow, look at that,” darkening his tone as he glared at the two teens, “You can stop staring at me like I’m crazy now.”

Rick blinked slowly as he leaned towards Polly, whispering “What’s wrong with him?” She glanced at Sylar for a second, her action eliciting a head bob from the taller man as she responded, “I don’t know. He threw a rock at Lea and then said he didn’t do it.”

The blonde looked alarmed, “Is she okay?” as he switched his gaze between Polly and Sylar, who was now bouncing the jewel in his hand absently, his eyes locked on the teen.

The chipper tones returned to the young girl’s voice as she responded, “Oh yeah, she’s fine, she’s just lying a pool of ketchup.”

Rick smiled, “I like ketchup.”

“Me too!” came the girl’s reply as they began a completely random conversation stemmed on Sylar’s behalf. It continued on for ten more minutes as the taller man rolled his eyes, drifting his gaze off before spotting two advancing figures in the distance.

His free hand lifted up, clamping his fingers together as he moved them open and closed in a mocked gabbing gesture until the two teenagers stopped and stared at him. They blinked in confusion and Sylar dropped his hand, responding in sarcasm, “You done talking now?”

Polly frowned, opening her mouth to voice her opinion when two additional shiny objects appeared out of nowhere at Sylar’s feet. All three dropped their gazes towards the grass, as Todd and Shari walked up beside them.

“What are we looking at?” Todd responded as Sylar immediately dropped the gem in his hand and plastered both palms against his ears as Polly looked up and screamed in joy. Throwing her arms around the brunette boy’s neck, she continued to shriek in delight until a loud thud echoed in the teen’s ears and she broke away from Todd.

Three sets of eyes surveyed their surroundings before resting on Rick’s unmoving form, sprawled on the grass with a red liquid collecting around his head. They all lifted up their gazes to Sylar’s face as he looked at them blankly, Polly confused as she replied, “Did you do that?”

The taller man nodded, a smile tugging on his lips, “I also plan on killing you as well.” Giggles emerged from the three remaining teens, until their laughs subsided when they noticed Sylar wasn’t laughing along. He tilted his head slightly, picking up the two gemstones lying on the ground “I’m not joking.”

Weighing one of the large gems in his palm, he tightened his grip as he chucked it Shari’s head, the contact leaving the smile plastered on her face as she fell lifeless to the grass.

Polly and Todd stood horrified as they stared down at the two dead teenagers until Sylar’s voice broke in with an inappropriate remark, “Go ahead, try it. I bet it’s not ketchup.”

A wide smile broke out on his face as his gestured towards Todd, “Hey, mini me, I have someone I want to introduce you to.” The young boy must have completely forgotten the preceding events as he replied back chipper, “Really?”

Todd’s perky attitude changed within moments when he moved within arm distance of Sylar and he shot out an arm, grabbing the kid by his throat. Pulling him forward, he glared him in the eyes, distracting his attention as he lifted the jewel and slammed it into his skull.

Dropping him to the ground, Sylar glanced at the bloody object in his hand before lifting his gaze up towards the constantly perky Polly. In comparison, the young girl wasn’t perky in any sense of the word as she stared at the taller man with wide, fear-laden eyes. Kicking his foot forward, Sylar advanced on the girl as he bounced the red stained jewel in his palm.

As he moved towards Polly, each step he took changed parts of his surroundings until he was inches from the girl and the atmosphere transformed around him.

Gazing up at a cloudless blue sky, he lay confused, his eyes adjusting to the blinding sun as ocean waves echoed in his ears. Tilting his head to the side, he found a young redheaded woman lounging in a chair beside him. He became more disorientated with the change of events, responding “Who are you?”

The young woman smiled, pulling off her sunglasses and propping herself up, “My name’s Michelle.”
