EDITORS NOTE- I wrote this a couple days ago.  I write my stuff first of WordPad and paste it on here.  Most of the time it's okay, but the spacing on this is..... quite crap.  I can't really do much about it, it's better than it was before and I'm really not in the mood to write it out again.  I hope you understand.  I'm sorry. :)

Past is italic.  Bold is song.
I'm sure you can make an educated guess at what the rest is. ;)

"C'mon Ryan! I said we would meet the others in 10 minutes!"

"Oh, so now you start fast walking! We would have been there earlier if you had put on a

sensible pair of shoes, Kaylie."

What Ryan said was true, Kaylie had picked the highest heeled pair of shoes in her closet.

It was raining outside, they had no car and they were walking to the pub to meet their

friends. Kaylie was beggining to regret it as all she could manage was a mixture between

dawdling and shuffling in the heels and Ryan was getting impatient. Walking also wasn't

easy when you were wearing the tighest dress ever. Ryan wouldn't understand the

complex needs and must haves of a woman, thought Kaylie, for he wasn't blessed to be

one. It was dark out in the moonless night and despite the stars, all she could see properly

was the shadowy figure of her boyfriend ahead of her.

"Ryan, slow down, I can't see anythi- Ahhhhh!" Kaylie cried as she tripped over the

pavement. She closed her eyes. Waiting for the impact that never came. She opened her

eyes to be met by the most astonishingly beautiful pair of eyes she had ever seen. Blue as

a sun filled sky, yet filled with a mute sadness. She had never felt such sadness for a

stranger. She realised that he had caught her as she fell and she smiled at him.

"Thankyou for catching me, I'm really clumsy."

"That's fine."

Kaylie heard the alcoholic slur and deep sadness in his voice. She saw he was wearing a

T-Shirt and a simple pair of jeans. He had light brown hair and pale skin. He also had

dark strips of red across parts of his arms. Dried blood, she diagnosed quickly, then she

banished the thoughts.

"What's your name?" She asked him.

"My name? My name is.... Ian."

"Well, hi Ian. My name is Kaylie. I really have to go now, I was with my boyfriend but it

seems he has left without me!" Then Kaylie kissed his cold, pale cheek and moved away

in the direction she hoped her boyfriend was. She didn't hear the strange man's quiet

reply as he walked back into the shadows.

"Mine left me too."

Ian sat back down in the dark. The stench of the nearby bins filled the air, but he didn't

notice. He turned to the left and picked up one of his bottles from the selection he had

next to him. He popped the top off and brought the cold glass to his lips. 'Fight your

weaknesses' he had always said to people, but he couldn't seem to do it himself. He sat

alone. Thinking about the girl, Kaylie. She had said that her boyfriend was ahead of her,

had left her. She didn't understand what that meant really. Ian knew that she would catch

him up, they would hold hands and have a good time. They would grow old together,

have children, get married. Be happy. Things Ian knew he could now never do. Because

his love had left him. His Anthony. The love of his life. They belonged together and he

was cruelly taken from him. He remembered where it all started.

Ian clutched Anthony's hand as they entered the polished, white building. Ian could feel

himself sweating, if he was nervous, he couldn't imagine how Anthony was feeling. They

sat in the hard, plastic, blue seats and waited hand in hand, for what seemed like an

eternity.

"Mr Padilla, please follow me." The doctor's eyes screamed pity.

Ian went to get up too but the doctor cleared his throat.

"You must stay here, Mr Hecox, while we talk to Mr Padilla."

Ian slumped back down in the chair as Anthony walked away.

Ian fiddled with his surroundings impatiently. 5 mintues later Anthony emerged from the

other room. Ian immediately knew something was wrong. Anthony's beautiful face was

red and streaming with tears. Anthony ran to Ian and hugged him hard. Ian couldn't

hold in the flood and he too, burst into tears.

"It's cancer Ian." Anthony sobbed into Ian's shoulder.

Ian could feel fresh tears well up in his eyes. He took another mouthful out of the glass

bottle. He then threw it at the wall, shards flew all around him. Alcohol helped him

forget, but tonight he wanted to remember everything. Anthony hated alcohol. He would

always tell Ian it showed that you are weak, and couldn't resist it. Ian knew he was right,

but now he wasn't here to stop him.

Ian knew Anthony had around 6 months to live. They were 2 months in already.

Anthony had decided to clear out everything that he no longer needed. Unless Ian

wanted it. Anthony had no one else to give it too. He didn't tell anyone else about the

cancer and his parents rejected him for his sexuality. So Anthony began to pack

everything up in to plastic bags while Ian followed him, unpacking everything. Anthony

laughed.

"Ian, you know I need to pack it up!"

"But you said I could keep stuff." Ian said with eyes of innocence.

"Yeah?"

"Well, I want all of it!"

Anthony laughed again and hugged Ian. Ian could feel that Anthony was thinner, he had to eat healthier now, but he often didn't feel like eating.

"Lets do something fun Ian." Anthony's flashed with want and a hint of naughtyness that Ian loved.

"What did you have in mind?" Ian asked with a smile although he already knew the answer.

And then, despite losing alot of weight, Anthony picked Ian up in his arms and kissed him like the world was ending.

Ian smiled at the memory. Tears still dripped down his pale cheeks. He could picture Anthony like he was right next to him, sitting with him in the dark night, holding his hands. He could picture the deep brown eyes filled with happiness and love. He could picture the faintly muscled, tanned skin. He could picture his smiling lips, imagine them pressed against his own.

But everytime Ian tried to picture him, Anthony would start happy and smiling. He would then slowly deteriorate as the cancer destroyed him and tears would stream down both Ian's real face and Anthony's imagined one.

Anthony only had around 2 weeks to live. He had experienced no irregular, extra faults. He could leave any day now. Ian knew this, and it broke every tiny bit of him inside. He had watched his love get weaker and weaker all the time and he could do nothing to stop it. It destroyed his heart. He was making Anthony a small salad meal when he heard a weak cry coming from the bedroom. He rushed in with his heart racing to see Anthony passed out on the floor with blood dripping from his mouth. Ian froze for a few seconds before reaching for the phone, dialling the number for the hospital as he desperately held back his tears.

He wasn't allowed in the hospital room as they doctors did everything they could to ease Anthony back into consciousness. Ian knew deep in his mind that it was in vain, but the rest of him refused to believe it. Then when the doctors came and told him the heart-breaking news, they wouldn't even let him in to let him see Anthony for the last time.

Ian remebered the last words he said to Anthony while he was lying in bed, weak and thin. He said, "Fight it Anthony, hold on. I love you."

Ian remembered how Anthony couldn't have a proper funeral as Ian was too poor and Anthony's parents cut themselves out of his life.

Since then he had been to the hospital alot. Passed out and bleeding deeply from his wrists, or from alcohol poisoning. The doctors repeatedly told him that it would end his life if he continued this way of life. But that broke a hint of happiness inside Ian, he longed to leave this world and join Anthony above the clouds, wherever he may be.
Ian now was crying openly, tears streamed down his face as his sobs echoed through the empty street.

When he stopped he felt strangely relaxed. He wanted to do something very peculiar.

He wanted to sing.

"This is for you Anthony." He said as he looked up into the sky and smiled.

"Somewhere, over the rainbow.

Way up high.

And the, dreams that you dreamed of, once in a lullaby.

Somewhere over the rainbow.

Bluebirds fly.

And the dreams that you dreamed of, dreams really do,

Come true.........

Someday I'll wish upon a star, wake up where the clouds are far behind, me.......

Where trouble melts like lemon drops, high above the chimney tops.

That's where, you'll find me...."

Ian slowly trailed off, silently hoping no one else heard him.

"I'll be with you again someday Anthony, someday over the rainbow." Ian whispered his promise into the sky as the stars twinkled down on him.
