I haven't seen a decent (and recent) JRPG game in a while, so I guess this is worth mentioning. Here we go, Tales of Graces f. I should also probably note that this is my first time playing a Tales game, so eh

As someone who has played through quite a few games from the Tales series, I'd also say Tales of Graces (f) was "good, but not the best." Admittedly, I played through the Wii version where there was no future arc (I did watch it on YouTube though), but that changes nothing.
Actually, it might have changed something but definitely not by much.

Tried Symphonia? I've played a few Tales games, and Symphonia is by far my favorite. Abyss was okay, largely because of Jade. The rest were pretty meh. On the other hand, I played Symphonia first, ages ago on GameCube. Maybe I was just easier to please then.
Some PS3 games - Eternal Sonata - have been released with the option of Japanese + English subtitles. It's great. And yet I'm still never going to finish that game, because it bores me.

My brother has Eternal Sonata lying around somewhere, I think...though I never picked it up, and probably won't, since you said it's boring. :P.
