Hmm.

I don't make it a point to really go out of my way to highlight TVB shows, since... probably only 1% of you who look at this LJ watches series from TVB. If at all. Who among you guys speak/hear cantonese anyway?

But anyway. I suppose it's a good time as any to (attempt to) pull someone into this. :)

So. I'm recommending Witness InsecurityRead more... )

Oh god wall 'o text.

Oh god Cantonese, and I'm barely getting a grip on the basics of Mandarin.

Oh well, I have time after work.

Streaming here for those (like me) who couldn't figure out how to get the download off the linked forum without signing up.

Do you have any recs for Mandarin dramas? I doubt I'll get as much Mandarin from dramas as I got Japanese from anime, but I can try.

Didn't have to suffer through the wall. ;p

It will be interesting to see if you caught some words and understood it instantly.. o.o

And, well...what works for you, I guess. I generally prefer keeping stuff on my hd, so...no harm signing up for me. There's a torrent site with subs I could link you as well, but that requires signing up too.

Mandarin dramas, no, sorry. I can't even speak nor read mandarin, soooo. The last time I watched a mandarin drama was probably a decade ago. I could probably point you to some of TVBs, but eh.

It's there. :<

Haha. All I've gotten is "m goi saai," and that only because my mom speaks Cantonese. It's really weird to hear what I've always classified as "the restaurant language" in common use...

Hm, I might take you up on that if the ending is as good as you say. I don't generally download things unless a) it's easier to find than streaming (which is generally is for anime), or b) I know I'll want it later.

Drat. What is "TVB"? And, does "point you" mean you know a few that are supposed to be good, or just that you know which ones are in Mandarin?

Though hey, I'm pretty sure I caught some Mandarin in this show. Was it just me, or was the older brother speaking Cantonese as he gave the white poodle to the middleman, who was speaking Mandarin?

Pfft.

the restaurant language... >_> What other classifications have you made..?

TVB is a...er...series production company? For cantonese shows etc. Not mandarin. I think there are some that's mandarin, but I never really checked it out. However, I do mean pointing out cantonese series, not mandarin.

And yeah. There's some mandarin, actually, but only for specific people - seeing that these people supposedly originated from mandarin-speaking places. It's also the reason why I download subbed ver. >_>

This show was on my 'should-I-watch-or-should-I-not-watch' list (since TVB's police drama has an extra tendency to be unoriginal/predictable) but I think I'll give it a try now. :D

Oh, by the way...
"given that TVB has a tendency to stick to storylines and soap dramas that would guarantee viewings from...HK housewives."
^Somehow I found that hilarious... but true. XD

If you don't care so much for the plot but how certain things progressed, you may like it the way I do. It's interesting at some parts, but not at others.

But yeah. TVB usually only comes up with police drama or family drama...or what doesn't seems like family drama but almost always end up to be a family drama.

And you can hear/speak cantonese? That would probably make you the only other online person I know who speaks canto. :D

TVB occasionally comes up with the odd historical fantasy show too, which is a hit-or-miss most of the time. Then again, quite a few of those ended up to be a family drama too... which enforces your point.

And yes, I'm a canto speaker. :D I never gave it much thought until now, but yeah, most people I know online don't speak a word of canto either.
