Thanks for posting this eulogy, I hadn't heard that he'd died. This case always struck me as fascinating (one of my majors was biopsychology), and in a way I'm really surprised that he lived to such a ripe, old age.
Something I think is cool is that, although he couldn't really remember anything new, he had somehow retained the impression that he was contributing to science. He knew that he was important in some way, and that people were studying him to help others.
Thanks to H.M., brain surgeons will never take the hippocampus for granted again. :)
