I'm doing research on the exorbitant budgets of prisons (that serve no good) to compile a paper for an English assignment, and in one of the articles I've been reading, a British columnist sneers at America for it's "War on Drugs" and hails the "lobbyists" who are vying for decriminalization of certain drugs. While I do believe that releasing (as well as lowering the incarceration sentences for) non-violent drug offenders would do wonders for the prison overpopulation crisis and the draining of tax payer funds, I doubt I'll ever vote for legalizing street narcotics. And you've written an excellent tale that articulates my fears that will keep me from supporting such legislation.
Great piece!
