So I went to talk to Schlag about my midterm.  Much to my surprise, he actually gave me points back on my midterm for the problems that I had done poor writeups for (I did not ask for these points, mind you.  I have this tendency to ask for lower grades when I deserve lower grades, and to be content with my grade when I think I should have had

If he had given you a comment suggesting that you did reasonably well, would you have gone in to talk to him?

I wouldn't have gone to talk to him had he given me a comment that I had failed the test either. I went to talk to him because he specifically wrote that I should go talk to him, and because y'all recommended it. Had he said "This is reasonably good, but could use some work. You should probably talk to me outside of class to clear up some of your confusion," I would also have gone to talk to him.
