Cut for those for whom child molestation and murder would trigger.
There was once a little girl. She lived with her mother, her grandmother, and her brother (and possibly a sister, I can't remember). She was 10.
One day, a man that her mother had dated molested this little girl. It was probably more than one day, and it was probably more than one time. Regardless, the man was arrested and held in jail on two felony sexual abuse charges, and she and her mother were subpoenaed to testify in his trial.
In the meantime, this man's brother had become a "friend of the family." He was working on the family's car one night while the mother was at school, leaving the little girl with her grandmother and siblings. His thought processes may never be known. But soon after the mother had left for school, this man, the brother of the man who had molested the little girl, took her in his pickup to a secluded location, raped her, and killed her.
This little girl's name was Jetseta Gage. She lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She ran and played and giggled as all little girls do, I'm sure. She's gone now.
The rage that rises in me has been burning hot for days, ever since the case broke. In the beginning, it was a rage against the man who kidnapped her and killed her. Understandable, that... evil that snuffs out the light of a child is one of the worst kinds of evil.
But then, yesterday, the news broke that his brother (who had been reported only to be in jail on sexual abuse charges) was in jail for sexually abusing Jetseta. Along with the news that the mother and child had been subpoenaed just over a week before she was taken.
It's not hard to put two and two together. Authorities are, of course, declining to do so.
But what made my simmering rage boil over this morning was this:
Her mother stated she didn't know that the man who kidnapped and raped and murdered 10-year-old Jetseta was a convicted sex offender. She didn't know that this man, whom she apparently allowed Jetseta to spend time with unsupervised, had a prior conviction of lavicious acts with a child.
Odd, that... but it really doesn't matter.
HIS BROTHER WAS IN PRISON FOR MOLESTING HER DAUGHTER.
There is more than the obvious evil here, I think. There is far more.
