Local people (or anyone who's had serious dermatological problems)

Anyone have any recommendations for dermatologists? Morgan needs to see one... I have a list of covered practitioners, but I don't have the faintest clue who to call The list is as follows: (positives or negatives are welcome if you know anything about any of these doctors ( Read more... )

Ava Feldman does a lot of...something...there were always ads on the radio for her. I was thinking it was cosmetic...but I could be wrong. Don't really know much else about her.

Dr. Bean and Dr. Love are the names I recognize. I'm thinking my mom worked for Dr. Bean for awhile...she worked for a derm in Lakewood (?) Plaza (that one out on University). The derm she worked for was an odd duck - I saw him once. Decided he creeped me out too much. BUT - I can't say 100% that it was Dr. Bean.

Dr. Love....for some reason I'm thinking I had positive accolades (?) for him.

I know that isn't any concrete info... If I get some time this afternoon, I'll search the web and see if anything jogs my memory.

I'm leery of people who are too self-promoting... So I'll steer clear of Feldman.

And if you have a chance to check and see if either Bean or Love jogs anything mental, I'd appreciate it. I'm horrible about making decisions about health care practitioners without input.

Feldman does tons of dermatology related stuff, she's been around here for a long time. I saw her long ago and HATED her.

I'll ask FIL tonight if he's familiar with any of them. He's got contacts all over the place.

Unfortunately he doesn't know any of them. Sorry, and good luck.

I took Sierra to Dr. Angeloni for something on her scalp. He was pretty cool. I hadn't thought about that till I saw you post his name.

(damn that didn't help did it?)

Actually, it does... I'm not just concerned about medical training but also personality. I don't really want to have my child going to someone who will treat him (or me) with contempt.

So, actually, personality assessment is a part of my request!

Ava R Feldman, DO
she is a raving bitch. I hate her. I saw her several several years ago before she started doing her promotions. There is maybe another doctor in the office but stay away from her. She is very rude and does not have good bedside manner. I was trying to find out all options for treatment when I was like 14 or 15, and she wanted to go straight for the brutalest approach because it was "most likely to clear everything in the first shot." .... dur. To be honest, I have horrible skin and very little has ever worked. What I use now is MAC skincare products. The wash I use is actually a scrub mask and works wonderful for me. http://www.maccosmetics.com/templates/products/sp.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY15121&PRODUCT_ID=PROD1498 this is the stuff. It's 17.50 and the only MAC counter in all of Iowa is at Younker's Valley West. But.. MAC has awesome stuff, it's cruelty free. I know it's usually ( ... )

*grin* that all helps, but when I say Morgan has BAD acne problems, I really mean BAD. He's like one of those kids you see in the mall and feel bad for, you know?

I've tried everything else, so I suppose I could try MAC... I even bought the three-step expensive stuff you see on TV, to no effect. The kid has a PROBLEM.

Hah hah, Murad and ProActiv? Tried them both. My mom had some luck with Murad, but I had none. Try the MAC stuff. Even if it's just to go to the counter and get some samples. I swear by it and switched my mom to it. Even my GRANDMA is wanting to switch to it now.

I know BAD acne. I had cystic acne, where the zits would turn into cysts. You've never seen me without a shirt on, but I've still got some rather severe scarring from back when I was a teenager.

Only thing that did anything for me was called "accutane". Stuff is extremely harsh, might be part of the reason my liver doesn't work right. And even then, I still would get acne and the occasional cyst, but not nearly as bad.

The only time my skin really cleared up... go to a local whole foods/organic foods/hippie general store (I go to Roots market in CF) and get a hold of some "Dr. Bronner's soap". Stuff is all natural oils, no laurel or laureth sulfate, soft enough to use on skin, strong enough to wash dishes and floors. That and a scrub brush... I've not had a severe outbreak for years. Strongly recommended. I use the tea tree oil stuff.
