what does the term 'hook up' mean to people our age? the term gets thrown around a lot, but im not sure of the connotation. does one assume sex or is the interpretation left up in the air?

To me it is "up in the air" and can mean anything from making out to actually having sex. It's all context.

i think it is deliberately ambiguous so that it's left up to individual person. however, my friends will usually say "we just made out", "we hooked up", and then more if it needs to be said.

i always thought that "hooked up" ment anything up to sex. but sex was something to the effect of "to sleep with".

apparently here (as opposed to the midwest) it means anything from makin out to sex.

i dunno. if someone feels comfortable enough telling me they hooked up wif someone, i feel they should be comfortable enough to elaborate if asked. that way, theres no question as to what went down. haha

i take it to mean "more than making out, less than sex," comfortably in the 3rd base range. but some people use it as a catch-all including sex. personally i find the "making out" vs. "Making Out" thing way more confusing. i was raised to think of making out as kissing and some over the clothes touching. but that's just my blue blood roots speaking.

Agreed!

I think "hooking up" means everything up to sex. Sex, in my book, has a whole different set of terminology!
