“Where are you going, Roderich?”
He slammed the briefcase shut, snapped the locks shut, and turned to look at the woman with the thin straps of her gown falling off her shoulders. With a nervous lick of his lips, he set the case upright, adjusted his tie and cleared his throat.
“I could use a change of scenery.” he stated simply, shortly, and picked up the briefcase. He headed straight for the door of the hotel room, and just as his hand grasped the doorknob, the cocking of a gun made him freeze.
“Drop the case.”
Roderich gasped, turned. “Elizaveta-!”
“Drop it!”
He paused, then carefully set the case down by his feet. With a stern glare, he analyzed her as her chest heaved, as the water from her long hair pooled against the white fabric, exposing the black lace bra he had the pleasure of removing just hours ago. His fists clenched, unclenched. Elizaveta grinned.
“You’re a terrible spy, Roderich.”
…Of course. It all made sense, didn’t it? Why she was so quick to take a shower before him, why there was the tan line on her thigh…the only puzzle was the time in which she had hid her gun and holster in the bathroom. But it didn’t matter now, and he drew his lips in between his teeth as he thought, never one for quick thinking under pressure. He had hoped to keep his relationship with Elizaveta personal, maybe court her in the months to come.
But he realized that this could no longer remain personal.
“Well…this is quite the twist, Miss Héderváry.”
