She approached him with her hands behind her back, gloved fingers intertwined. He noticed her easily enough; he always did, and let out a sigh. Releasing his bent legs from his tight, hugging grasp, Silver hung his head a tad lower. “What’s up, Blue?”
Blue smiled and patted Silver’s head of red. “Nothing much. You?”
“Just…thinking.”
“Oh?” Blue sat down next to him, scooting closer until their shoulders touched. “What about?”
Silver glanced at her, a faint blush on his cheeks, but shook his head. “Nothing…well, nothing I wouldn’t want to worry you with.” They had discussed the issue many times before, about their pasts, their missing families. Were they looking for them? Would they ever find them…?
Blue giggled and nudged him playfully. “Oh, come on. It’s not like we haven’t shared everything, right?”
While she had a point, Silver’s brooding was hindering from cooperating with her light-hearted prying. “We have…and I trust you. But…”
“Alright…penny for your thoughts, then?”
Silver, caught off guard, paused and turned his head to look at her. Blue, between her thumb and index finger, was holding a smaller form of currency. After staring between her money and her gorgeous, smiling face, he felt the idea was ridiculous in its endearing, smile-bringing way. “My thoughts aren’t worth paying for, Blue.”
Blue shook her head, took his hand in hers, pressed the coin into his palm, and closed his fingers over it. “Well if you’re not going to tell me straight-out, then I have to make you feel bad to tell me!” she said with a small laugh. “See, now that you have my money, you have to tell me what you were thinking to make you so broody!”
Her antics never ceased to surprise and amuse Silver. He stared at his closed fist, trying to find words to give her. “…Just…the same old stuff.” he murmured, almost weakly. Blue shifted yet closer, putting her hand on his back comfortingly.
“Which same old stuff? We’ll get through it, together.”
“…I know we will.”
