“Okay, dude, you gotta be honest with me.”
Richard looked up at Hurley, a frown set on his face. He raised an eyebrow expectantly, cueing the much larger man to continue. The fire had been burning for an hour or so, and he had been hoping to toss and turn the ideas running through his head without interruption.
“A-alright, um…so, is that eyeliner?”
And he didn’t have time for stupid questions. Richard stared at him for a moment, took a calming breath, and replied sternly, “No, it’s not eyeliner.”
Hurley jumped a bit, and began to fiddle helplessly with his hands. “Oh, yeah, duh. So…that’s like…natural, dude?”
“Does it matter?”
“Well…no, but-”
“Then can we please drop it?”
Hurley’s lower lip poked out a bit, but he resigned himself to picking up a nearby stick and poking the firewood with it. A few moments of silence passed between them, for which Richard was thankful. That was, of course, only to last until Hurley’s curiosity, yet again, got the best of him.
“But I mean, hey man, it’s not like wearing eyeliner’s a bad thing. Guys do it a lot nowadays, so it’s not, like…gay or anything.”
