The vision blared with stinging clarity behind his eyelids, explosions of insanity overtaking him. Everything he'd ever known twisted into knots, into braids and crumpled tangles; all the world ripped apart, then pasted together with sloppy intent to the blackness. Stein's grip on reality, on the table he clung to, released and he collapsed to the surface of his breaking point. It all came down on him, slamming into his chest and infiltrating his brain. He had nowhere to go, the universe in which he found himself empty of all beating hearts and functioning minds. Madness, chaos, a blur of sharp flashes and sounds, clamoring together in a crazed symphony.
Stein's eyes snapped open without coercion, an abrupt, unexpected action. He stared up at the ceiling, wide-eyed. His surroundings backed off from suffocating him, edging away from him as he began to take note of the old world he had left for...well, he didn't know how long. He sat up, hand to his forehead, face scrunching together when he felt a pool of sweat clinging to his skin. A quick turn of his screw settled the obscurity in his thought process, and he began the observations.
As expected, the drug he'd concocted had contained an obscene potency, and using himself as the test subject had proved near-fatal.
"That won't do," he chided, pushing himself to his feet. He found his glasses sitting on the table, so he slipped them back onto his face. Not much changed; the lenses were cracked, and he set them back down by his notebook and pen. His hand clenched then unclenched before it took the pen into its grasp, hesitant in using it to write on the provided note-taking paper. "Side effects include delusions, hysteria, loss of vision..." he murmured as if the words were being repeated back to him on paper.
Instead, he flicked a large checkmark onto the page with a smirk curled against his cheeks.
