Everyone should know I'm alive and well in Africa. This is a strange, strange place, and I highly recommend coming here if ever you have the chance. The people are all friendly, even though sometimes a bit annoying because everyone (and I do mean everyone) wants you to buy something. There's no avoiding them because you're white and you stick out

That's very similiar to how I felt about El Salvador. These people would have NOTHING, absolutely nothing, except the fruit growing on the tree in their yard. Then, they would go, pick the fruit, and give us the best pieces. On one hand, it made me uncomfortable, but it was amazing to see the selflessness of these people.
