My ponderings on lyres

So, I've been talking to Danae, the guy in Oregon who makes lyres. I've found out that he's been making lyres for 2 years and has sold about 20 of them -- his first to someone in the SCA and the rest mostly to the UK, of all places ( Read more... )

I'd see if he'd go out on a limb for you and make the other shape. If he can't/won't, go with the tried 'n true.

Just a side note: in a twelfth-century manuscript, the author talks about the cythara tutonica (Germanic lyre) and cythara anclica (an English romanesque harp). So, the lyre is at least discussed even later than your persona's time. Oh, and guess what? Once I get my harp (I posted about it awhile back), I'll have both of the aforementioned instruments. :) You'll have to come and see them (or I'll have to find a way to get to Tor Aerie).
