Just spent two hours tweaking Snoweh's fuckass PC. Perhaps tweaking is misleading, as tweaking implies gaining performance above and beyond the average expected from your hardware/software. I think she needs a new HDD. I doubt the one she's got atm is even UDMA. I could lend my 30 IBM jobbeh, which is just shy of the fastest IDE drives available today.. should help things along a bit. She's got a reasonable processor and enough memory, so it's just HDD and motherboard that's left. I don't think the motherboard is responsible for that much crapness. Mind you, have a gander at how much stuff she's got installed.. see if that's the culprit.

Yeh I'd id'd the drive as a problem - it is UDMA.. version 1 ;P The mobo looks shit - and tho I haven't tested it - I think one of her dram stix is fubar. Tho the other one runs happily at CAS 2... replaced some drivers, added the latest 4in1's & windows update. Runs alright now - but it is drive access that's the killer.

O and her profile was around 2.4 gig ;P Didn't exactly help windows load. Reduced it to 40 meg.
