Random visitor from the LJ last images feed.

Anyway, I don't know that Atlanta is or ever will be a "major metropolitan area," but the CTA has to beat the pants off of MARTA. Yanno, if it's any consolation and all.

Haha, omg. I was just commented the same thing. Very true indeed. Where do you live in ATL?

Dunwoody, currently. After 11 years in the city, it's the first time I've lived somewhere that MARTA is even kind of close to, and I take it down to GSU for class.

It is cheaper than driving, although it does take longer.

Part of MARTA's problem is that we are such a sprawling and random city. It's hard to really have a good train system when your metro area is 70mi long. But, that's only one part of the problem.

Really? Me too. I live off of Exit Six (Northridge). I used to ride from East Point to N. Springs...talk about one helluva train ride.

And yeah, thats only one problem. LOL. But look at NYC I mean, I don't have milage, but I've been there...and I know its huge and they do okay. *Correction* They do freaking great.

If only they had more rails (Like N connecting to E, N connecting to W, and the same with SE/SW). I think that would be a big help, and having more trains run more often. And of course, I'll die and go to Heaven when the metro is 24/7. And not f***ed up on the weekends all the time. Just think, less DUIs to deal with, but of course, if there are less DUIs, then local governments wont be making as much revenue. *Rolls eyes*

CTA's act is together.

In my experience of late, nothing could be further from the truth. I only buy about 30% of "The Money Excuse" for why CTA rail service is in the crapper (and I'm referring specifically to north and southbound Red, Purple and Blue line service, since those are the only lines I use...based on word of mouth, though, the same could also be said of Brown and Green lines.) I know there are huge infrastructure/funds allocation issues at the state and regional levels that affect certain aspects of CTA performance, e.g., if you can't perform routine maintenance, you're going to have issues. However, it's the underperformance in those areas that aren't affected by lack of money that drives me nuts since these have the potential to dramatically improve the overall experience of riding the el. For example, last week, I was trying to connect from the Yellow line to the Purple line at the Howard stop. There was a Purple line train waiting at the station as the Yellow line pulled up. We exited the Yellow line and walked ( ... )

Your reply confirms, essentially, that the rail service is "in the crapper" or at least nearly beyond the power of CTA to manage effectively. ;) No matter the reasons why, it's a mess! Nevertheless, I only addressed those issues that are not dependant on cash and that could go a long way toward reversing the negative opinion of CTA rail service (I can't speak on CTA buses as I don't ride any) AND make up for the CTA's inability to increase/expand equipment and infrastructure maintenance due to budget problems. Is it unreasonable to expect the CTA to allow passengers to make their connections when there is ample time? (For the record, it's happened several times that the doors to the Purple line close as the doors to the Yellow line open. Then the Purple line sits there for at least five seconds before pulling off. It's maddening and absolutely indefensible/inexcusable.) Is it unreasonable to expect the CTA to clean the trains *more effectively*? There are at least three guys at the Howard stop whose job it is to sweep ( ... )

Ride MARTA my friend, you'll come to know real suckage. (Atlanta's rapid transit is about as rapid as a constipated woman.)

lol...tru dat. Actually, I have only ONE experience riding MARTA, and it was when I was a wee lad visiting my aunt who'd recently moved from Chicago to ATL. I remember being really impressed by the look of the train (the colors, the seats, the sliding doors, etc., which, of course really boils down to the fact that that was my first time ever riding a train, lol.) I don't remember anything about the service, though. My aunt, however, has filled me in on the details of MARTA suckage since then. She used to live downtown and tried to do the whole public transporation thing for a month or two, I think...she gave up and now uses her car all the time, avoiding MARTA at all costs (and recommending others do the same, lol.) So, yeah, I guess you win. ;)

Heheheehe. *Sweet*
It's good for events though, but only because parking is limited and expensive, but even then, it's crowded to the max.
