I use a 20D, but I'm trying to figure out my upgrade path. How do you like the 30D? I saw on your blog that it's a recent acquisition along with a 500gb drive and other stuff. Nice.

yeah, i've been spoiling myself lately.
it's nice so far, although i'm already yearning for some slightly better glass than the one it comes with (i was shooting on a uh...pentax k1000 prior to this ha ha)

Anyway, yah...the kit lens is ass. You've probably heard this before, but the Canon 50mm/1.8 lens is an absolute must-have since it's only $90 and the photos it takes are gorgeous: sharp, good contrast/color, good bokeh. The build quality is horrible, but it's only $90. A friend also recently purchased a 30D kit; he and his boyf were going to Morocco and the Ivory Coast (just returned), so I gave him my 50/1.8 and told him "you don't want to take those photos with the kit lens." He'd never used a prime before (which I'm assuming is not case with you), so he was a little reluctant. But when I saw him the other day and he was raving about the 50 and will now get one ( ... )
