Japan - Kyoto (two)

May 24, 2007 23:46

Just a short post with a few more photos from Kyoto, mostly from this small English Pub (can't remember the name) we stopped in for lunch.

Sorta like Smash Head in Nagoya, this place was full of toys, games and other fun stuff.  Our waiter was really cool (not to mention quite easy on the eyes.)  He encouraged us to...play.  And we did.  For lunch, ( Read more... )

it is something one needs to see once in her lifetime

Couldn't agree more. It's a pretty amazing country.

how come you've ended up there, how long are you staying and the typical questions?

I only wish I were living in Japan. :) These photos are from a trip Tristan and I took this past March (wow...was it that long ago?) We were both really moved by the experience and fantasized about moving to Japan on a short-term basis. Anyway, we have friends who are living in Nagoya for a while longer and we are planning a return to Japan this November for a longer stay (two, possibly three weeks.) There's so much we want to see (Hiroshima, Osaka, Fukuoka, Hokkaido and, of course, Tokyo again.) We're somewhat obsessed with the country at the moment (the people, the history, the culture, the food, etc.) Definitely anxious to go back...

I was pretending to photograph the restaurant when I was really waiting for him to appear from the kitchen. hehe. I snapped the photo as soon as he appeared and he apologized cuz he thought he'd gotten in the way. Sneaky....

*LOL* I do this all the time! Well, sometimes I ask depending on the subject and others just tell me too, but I prefer to catch them unaware. Every once in awhile I get the evil eye but as of yet, no one has dared approach me and ask if I took their photo. Usually I take the photo and then lower the camera and act like I'm waiting for them to pass. Genius!

Great set of photos these.

OMG I would just die. lol. I keep telling myself that it's OK to take photos of strangers, all of my heroes did it, blah blah blah, but I haven't yet broken through that barrier of fear that I'm being rude and invasive. I'm trying to work up the courage to actually ask folks if they would mind if I took their photo...we'll see how that goes, I guess (though I still want to take a good number of surreptitious captures...)

The majority of my candids are people in public places, usually in parks. That way no one can scream at me about right to privacy.

I'm actually surprised at the number of people who ask me to take their photo and give me their email to send it to them. You walk around with a big lens and folks hop in front of you like they're on America's Next Top Model or something.

One day I'm totally going to go to the park with a sign that says, "May I take your photo for my portfolio?," and see how many takers and emails I get.
