Stuck in a Rut

So, I have a little predicament here.  Most of you know I just graduated (December 2006).  This week I was going to begin looking and possibly applying for some jobs.  Over the last year I had decided (if I had it my way) I would try to get a job in a state like Virginia or North Carolina.  For various reasons, basically they offer what I want ( Read more... )

Well... I financially and realistically lean towards staying where you are and taking a job in a place you already know and gain experience. Just because you take a job doesn't mean you have to stay there forever, you can till look for new opportunities while you work there. If something great comes along then you can take it and you'll already have experience and more income.

On the other hand you want change, I understand that... but it's not really something you have to rush. You can still make your plans to move somewhere else and keep working towards that. Ultimately, it's your decision. I'd like a change too and eventually i'd like to move to a different city but right now just getting out of college / not having much money it's just not logical.

The thing to remember is if you want it to not put it off for TOO long because eventually you'll find yourself 20 years down the road in the same place doing the same thing, ya know? Set goals and things like that.

Hope I helped a little? Good luck.

I'm gonna throw in my two cents and say if I were in your situation, I'd take the job. First off, you can't guarantee you'll be able to find what you're looking for any time soon. In the case that you do, if you give your current employer immediate notice, that should give him plenty of time to find your replacement so you'll stay on good terms with him because arranging everything for a new job and an entirely new living situation will take time.

Unfortunately, change takes time, even abrupt ones (if that makes any sense to you at all) so you may just have to stick with it a little longer than you'd like but I'm sure the payoff will be great.

Also, does your job offer any sort of transferring to anywhere you'd be interested in? Or do they already have a relationship with a similar company you could transfer to elsewhere? Just a few other things to consider if you haven't already.

Change is awesome, it's one of the most exciting things that you can do. But, you must also be realistic and figure out what you can do that will benefit you the most on the long run. Finding a job and a living situation takes time, and you might as well be working and earning some money in the meantime to assure a better situation when the chance to move does come ( ... )

i agree what the other girls said. it sounds like you're already leaning toward taking this job, for now. i think that's a good idea. sometimes it's best to take a good job before what you want otherwise. then later when you have more freedom financially, you can do more of what you want. but it is a tough decision, and i've been thinking about what i'll do after college as well - staying home or not. right now, staying home is my backup for if i don't get a job somewhere else. but anyway, good luck in what ever you decide. :)
