Beautiful. I particularly like the warmth of the light design, and the contrast of textures on different levels - granite, beech and washi paper. Did you select the calligraphy?

More importantly, do you miss those days, or are you happier now?

I miss my physical connection to Japan, profoundly.

My boss selected the calligraphy -- if I remember correctly, it was done by a San Franciscan. I'm meeting her for lunch tomorrow, so I'll confirm.

The character is an abstaraction of "ai" (love) and was commissioned from a San Francisco calligrapher.

And today my profound connection with Japan gloriously reopened with a panoply of possibilities, which brought me great joy.
