Oh, aren't you the sweetest. It's not necessary but...well, the liner notes are really nice. It's really important to me that the whole package is something I'm proud of.
I used to be of the mindset that gloomy songs were always superior to the happy ones. After all, who wants to hear about someone else being happy? Bring on the miserable fucks whinging about how terrible their existences are, and people can relate to that. Or they can at least feel better because the prick on the radio can't buy his way into a relationship and stay content no matter how much money he's making.
You really do deserve congratulations for making your way back from all that happened. A lot of greats allowed themselves to get weighed down by the temptation and temporary relief of decadence.
So Latin's been sacrificed for German? You're a brave man. I don't think they make lederhosen for a man my size. There would be great discomfort involved, either for me or for the people who had to see me in such an outfit. That and we won't get into the colour of Irish legs and their nuclear properties.
I like the challenge of writing when I'm in a settled and happy mindset. It makes you work harder to be interesting and you have to stretch further. But hey, I still say ain't no better cure for the blues than sitting down and pounding it out on the piano or guitar. Plus you know I'm still addicted to operatic tragedies, and Elton did say that "sad songs say so much

Well, as much as I wished it was on the forefront of everyone's mind, I'm very flattered that you want to get it. Since this comment is late, maybe you already have! Be kind ;)
this was quite a read. i'm not sure what to say to it. you've been through things i can only imagine. i still get nervous at premieres. and i get more scared of the idea that i might somehow be losing perspective as my career continues. i've already seen enough people become successful only to have it chew them up and i want to make sure i avoid that above everything. it was good to see someone who's been able to make it through.
You know, imagining is usually what I'd recommend for most people as opposed to actually experiencing when it comes to what I went through. I don't regret my experiences, but I do think I could have made some better choices along the way. But c'est la vie.
I'd say you've been on the scene long enough to already know how to navigate around most of the pitfalls. It's usually the first year or two that really swallows people up. Well, unless their career tanks, but that's a whole other thing.
Well, thank you. I'm stubborn as hell, basically. It's how I mananged to function so long with my excesses, and it's how I managed to overcome them.
People have always expected our music to be happy and whenever it isn’t they think we’re coming to and end. I think there’s a balance somewhere in there, that you have to add a bit of both because you can’t just discard one or the other. It’s great to see you pull through, to know you’ve survived all that and managed to come out on top. I’m looking forward to this album and will get my hands on it as soon as I can. Congratulations, mate.
Thanks a lot, Jay. It's all about trying to keep people from putting you into a box. I'm just flailing as hard as I can to knock down the walls as people try to build them up. It won't always go my way, but I certainly won't go a certain way because other people say I should. I hope you enjoy the record.
