[Personality]
Clopin’s emotions and moods are as versatile and numerous as the number of masks that are in the world. He is a showman and a performer and enjoys seeing those around him smile. But his frivolity and gayety can be considered the cleverest mask of all. Clopin is a master performer every minute of every day. He is capable of the quickest trick or turn of phrase and word manipulation to twist and spin the conversation as he pleases. He is often amused by the people around him and always interested in listening to their story. Clopin is a master story teller able to weave and bend the words of a tale like Archne with her web. He enjoys seeing people entertained by him and his ilk.

But for all the enjoyment and smiles that Clopin might show, beneath the smile and the mask is a very sinister mind and dark personality. Clopin has been made hardened by his years as Gypsy King and the subject of ridicule. He has seen children and women be killed for nothing more than the station of their birth. He has seen families go hungry because the law has decided that a day’s well and legal earned pay was gained by ill means and so must be confiscated. Clopin has no respect or regard for the law of any city of any station. While he may play nice with them on occasion he despises all figures within the station of "law." That is not to say everything he does not do illegal actions. Quite the opposite in fact. Gypsies did not gain their reputation merely because they were victims of circumstantial birth. Clopin is willing to kill, fight, steal, and all other unlawful acts if the situation calls for it. However, most of it is done to keep his gypsies safe.

Clopin, sinister as he is, is extremely protective of those who are under his care. He protects them to the death if he must and has no issue with killing to keep his band safe. He understands that there are plenty of dangers in the world but he tries to offer them a place where they can be at ease in. He does take some pleasure in death. A gypsy, after all, is well acquainted with death as both messenger and receiver. Clopin feels no remorse when it is an outsider he’s killing that walks into the den of a gypsy. If someone is willingly seeking the den then it can only be for one reason in his mind and trespassers need to be handled quickly and swiftly. Like any gypsy, Clopin cannot stand the idea of imprisonment or staying inside stone walls. He has traveled almost of Europe, although his native home is France. And it is in France he maintains one of his bigger dens for his gypsies. However, even around his fellow gypsies his true face is not revealed. It is closest to his true personality to be sure, but the sinister glee he exerts is still only another mask that he wears.

The closest mask that is truest to Clopin’s real personality is the one he wears whilst around children. Clopin is very good with children and quite fond of them in actuality. He raised and tended to several generations of children amongst the gypsies (though none of them were his). Around children he is very gentle and kind although he can still let his more sinister side break through but it is tame and even humorous.

Much like a child, and perhaps proof of Clopin’s insanity, he has a little puppet that looks like him that is affectionately called and referred to as “the Boy.” The Boy is as much a part of Clopin’s personality as anything else. The Boy is common sense, sense of justice, a little bit of Clopin’s conscience, and - depending on the situation - the Boy will ask questions that a normal may not understand even if Clopin’s twisted labyrinth that he calls a mind would. But the Boy is also the voice of what’s “right.” It will defend the accused even if it is all in vain. It will also get straight to the point of Clopin’s long tangents. The Boy is straightforward where Clopin is not. The Boy will just say what he is thinking where Clopin will speak around what he is thinking without however approaching it. The Boy, however, is completely controlled by Clopin. He is perfectly capable of speaking and interacting without the Boy. The Boy, in a way, is present for the convenience of people who do not get what Clopin is saying. The Boy and Clopin can work in tandem or the Boy may even insult Clopin if the occasion calls for it. The Boy is controlled by Clopin because the Boy still is Clopin although the back and forth between them that it is almost easy to forget the Boy is a puppet.

Clopin also greatly appreciates beauty both in men and women. Clopin, while not a lecherous man, does not deny himself whatever may tempt him. While he has no issue with stealing food, Clopin is an extremely proud man and wouldn’t lower himself to something like forcing a woman. He knows he is attractive and well spoken enough to bed whom he pleases without any coercing. This rule does not apply to other matters however. He will steal, kill, and manipulate whatever it is he desires if need be. He is certainly willing to earn whatever he desires lawfully but it is a matter of circumstance.
