This week at the movies

THIS WEEK AT THE MOVIES...
-Something called, “The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones” comes out. I didn’t see it, I don’t know what it is, and I really don’t care. The story involves magic and shit, but all I know is that it takes place in a Brooklyn populated almost entirely by magical white people.

Couldn't you make the exact same criticism of "Shaun of the Dead" and, y'know, every American comedy for the past 20 years?

I loved “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World,” but “Hot Fuzz” and now this...Hang on. You thought Scott Pilgrim was better than "Hot Fuzz"? What's with all the hating on "Hot Fuzz"? You are not the first, but I really don't get it. I thought everyone loved that movie and yet now "The World's End" has come out I keep hearing people suggest that it was some kind of low-point for Edgar Wright's career ( ... )

Let me emphasize - I like all of Wright's films. But Fuzz and this lack re-watch value to me. Wright's craft has improved with each film, but I think his insight has diminished, particularly considering this one bites off so much more than it can chew. Also, Considine and Marsan are fantastic actors - felt like this movie gave them so little to do.

X-Men syndrome. When you have a large number of heroes to focus on, not all of them get the attention they deserve. ;)
