I am in the Hosptial again

I wrote the other day about the new diagnosis and that the doctor had given me some new medication to take care of the osteoarthritis and osteoporosis.

Well... I took just one day's dose... and had to be rushed to the E.R. very early this morning and losing consciousness. I developed almost fatal diabetic ketoacidosis. While I was sleeping the new ( Read more... )

Ye gods! I hug you and your cats and smack the doctor! You take care, and you will be in all our good thoughts and prayers.

To be fair I had an ABNORMAL reaction to something usually quite harmless. All steroids will raise blood sugars just rarely to the extremes I jumped to while I was asleep. They're going to run tests to see if I also have any underlying non-diagnosed issues that could have contributed. It wasn't my PCP, this was a standard, fairly common 1 week course of anti-inflammatory prednisone cortisteroids.

All my kitties will get freaking TILAPIA freshly grilled when I get home. Temptations is not going to cut it for a thank you.

Needy is probably scared tonight, she always hates when I leave her for any length of time, she's very clingy and well... NEEDY (Hence her name) when I get back. SHe's been cuddling up with me every night since I got back from DC last week, and last night she was like plastered to me in bed and the next thing I knew both she and cookie we all over me and I felt the axis of the planet shift.

I'm beginning to feel better.

Scary stuff, D! One of my kitties had ketoacidosis and it was a nighttime trip to the emergency vet and three days in-patient. Glad yours knew to take care of you, hope you feel better!

God I can't imagine having to treat a kittty with this, they can't tell you what is wrong. I so admire VETS who know how to help. That's so terrifying for you too. *hugs*

It was heartbreaking--it was after I moved to Wales, so my housemates at home took amazing care of him. But one of the other kitties was clearly so worried about him, and kept checking on him, and stayed downstairs with him overnight when James couldn't pull himself up the stairs. Which is when the humans realised something was actually really wrong and they should take him to the vet RIGHT NOW instead of on Monday morning. I kept thinking about my poor baby sick and miserable and wondering what was going on and felt so bad! I'm so glad he made it; as you well know ketoacidosis is a thing that kills humans fairly quickly and cats are much smaller!

Anyway, relieved that you're okay. <3

Yes I'm doing much better today, my sugars are normal today. Just one or two more days here, making sure none of my ancillary systems were affected too badly before they send me home. I am however feeling 100% better if just a bit tired and goggy.

haha XD it is! :D I like it there because it makes me smile, every time I go to the fridge <3 I see it there a lot more then I would on the wall near my computer (too much monitor!) or something else like that... so your little kitties are there to greet me every time I go to get something to nibble on. <3 Unless, of course, one of my cats have gotten jealous and knocked it off the door... ;)

Also, this will sound weird, but I'm glad you had an ABNORMAL reaction to something! That means your doctors (hopefully) know what they're doing and aren't botching things up! Hoping for ALL the most competent doctors at your bedside!
