One of the worst misconceptions about mood/mental disorders and medication is that once you find a medication, you'll be okay.

Especially for young/growing people, it's more the opposite -- you'll be doing a constant dance adjusting and changing medications to meet the needs of different growth stages and metabolism shifts.

agreed.
especially for young people whose bodies and hormones are changing... the adjustments are constant
it sounds like ... as i have had personal experience with... the doctor wasnt monitoring him closely

I don't blame the drug right off the hop. I was on psychiatric medications that carried a black box warning (well, one of them anyway- Seroquel- and it had a "troubled past" also). The problem is that he should have been closely watched by psychiatry while taking the drug, if that is what caused his issues in the first place. All drugs have their risks, and it might have been that this was better than the alternative- either him being unmedicated or taking something else.

i dont think its really possible to say whether the problem was
all medication
partly medication
not at all medication and all his psychiatric issues
or even if he wasnt medicated ENOUGH...

i think we may never know for sure.

i know i , personally, have been on two different anti depressants (both of which carry black box warnings) one did fine...
one tried to kill me
