Well a bunch of stuff, really. The thing that sparked the decision was my failure in music theory, though I've been unhappy in the conservatory for a long time. It restricts me, and makes music a joyless experience for me. I still want to do music though; I'm just not going to major in it. I'm going to minor in it

Awesome, good for you! Sounds like you've figured a lot of shit out. I think studying music independently is a good idea for you...it seems like people who swear by the book and follow all the rules don't really develop their own voice (no pun intended) or cultivate any sort of personal creative individuality. I also plan on getting back into music as soon as I'm able to afford a computer that will support music production programs. Good luck! :)
