Okay, so remember the 1980s? No? Too young? *sigh* Okay, so there was this time when cartoons were awesome and completely based on action figures. Shows like He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and She-Ra: Princess of Power taught us how to be good citizens and call mean people snarky names to their faces. They were good times.
How She-Ra got started:
So, there’s this guy, Prince Adam. He has the Sword of Power that transforms him into the super hero He-Man so he can fight the evil forces of Skeletor that threaten to take over his home planet of Eternia. Adam’s been at this awhile when the Sorceress has a dream about a baby and sends Adam to Etheria with the Sword of Protection (it's just like his but with a big jewel!) and instructions to find a the girl for whom the sword is destined.
There, Adam, and his green tiger sidekick, Cringer, found the Horde in control of the planet and became friends with a band of Rebels working against the Horde. Adam transformed into He-Man to save the day and was eventually captured by hottie Force Captain Adora, a favorite of Horde leader Hordak, and her creeptastic minions. Turns out Adora is Adam’s sister but she’s been placed under a spell to keep her from learning the evil truth about the Horde or wondering about her own family. Fighty stuff and magic sword stuff happen and Adora finally sees the truth of her situation while He-Man is basically being killed by one of Hordak’s evil machines. Before He-Man can die, Adora takes hold of the sword and the Sorceress speaks to her through the stone, telling her how to become She-Ra, a super-powered version of herself with a deeper voice, longer hair, and more cleavage. She-Ra possesses the physical power and magical ability needed to save He-Man and will be the leader the Great Rebellion needs. So Adora summons the honor of Grayskull and changes to She-Ra for the first time. Adora/She-Ra then escapes the Horde, taking He-Man (and her horse, Spirit who transforms into the pegasus/unicorn Swift Wind) with her.
Oh, and also? Adam is Adora's twin brother, making some of their earlier flirty scenes just a wee bit awkward now. Oops!
Adam/He-Man returns to Eternia while Adora/She-Ra stays on Etheria, wanting to fight the Horde alongside the Great Rebellion. Practically overnight, Adora becomes a great leader of the Rebellion and becomes friends with freedom fighters like Bo, Kowl, Madame Razz, Glimmer, and Mermista. Together they fight the evil forces of Hordak for the honor of love. They have the power, so can you. Shut up, there's a song. Also, go watch my favorite episode,
Huntara.
Q&A Time with Adora and She-Ra
Okay, so if you're like me and you stalk userpics, you may have noticed three things:
1. Um, there's icons of two different girls! Is that a glitch?
Yeeeeah, no. Adora has brought the Sword of Protection to Fandom and will be keeping it hidden on her person at all times just like in canon. Should a situation arise where Adora feels She-Ra is needed, she just might transform as
stealthily as possible. I know, people will notice (what with the catchy theme music and all), but we'll deal with that later.
This means that, should She-Ra be around, she doesn't look exactly like Adora. They are both still tall blondes but they sound nothing alike and (unlike Adam/He-Man) their hair and wardrobe are completely different, and I really believe She-Ra's outfit would distract anyone from realizing she was Adora.
Adora's PB is Sarah Chalke (of Scrubs fame) and Adora comes to Fandom equipped with Earth-style clothing (thank goodness for her Earthling mother) like pants and tops and heels. Always heels.
She-Ra's PB is Tricia Helfer (of Battlestar Gallactica fame) and She-Ra basically dresses like
this. It's the equivalent of a wee skirt and boob-baring corset coupled with hooker boots. ...And a cape. I know. To top it off, She-Ra has a TON of powers that Adora just can't touch.
2. Dude, weird keywords.
Yeah, the keywords are there to stop me from pinging the wrong face into class. I apologize now for the many ping edits I see in the near future, but the keywords are totally me trying.
3. WTF, horse?
The white horse with dark gold mane is Spirit, Adora's NPC talking steed. He'll be staying in the stables with the other horses, but will be visiting the dorms often to check up on Adora and beg her to transform into She-Ra so he can become Swift Wind (the super strong, super fast, unicorn pegasus) since flying is his favorite thing ever and they randomly go up when things are dull. I have no icons of Swift Wind that aren't from the cartoon, but I'm working on it.
I know, tl;dr. But, I think that's all? If anyone wants to know more about He-Man and She-Ra or the lack of really good horse icons, I'm your go-to person. For the honor of Grayskull!
