In public schools the only ones I know of are closeted, to some extent or another. It may just be the paranoia the current administration induces, but my immediate thoughts on being out and teaching in public schools all head toward "evil homophobic school board meetings" and such, and various fears for job security. I really hope it's not as bad a situation as I imagine it to be, though. You'd be a fabulous teacher. Have you talked to the folks at GLSEN at all? They might be able to give you some insider perspective on it all...

I'd actually rather teach in private school, but that's even less job security since a great many public schools are unionized.
OK, I get that. It's too bad she doesn't seem to be grokking all the ways in which what you and Katy are doing truly doesn't buy into the ickiness of marriage as it's normally conceived, though. Does it seem like something where more conversation might clarify that? I hope so -- it'd be really nice for her to be able to be happy/excited for you two about it all.
