This article from Slate reminded me of (or rather, thrust upon me) Thomas Hardy's The Darkling Thrush, that poem we got for unseen in the prelims, and which horrified Mr Prince because of all the exam scripts written by people who didn't know what a thrush was (It's a man! homeless people are much more visible everywhere but singapore; we seem to have some crack team that sweeps the streets clear of them and CULLS them. and disabled people on wheelchairs?? seems like the same. -_-

thrush IS a disease! but hilarious in the context... imagine hardy writing on yeast infections heehee. a very good poem for the end of the year indeed.

darkling thrush! oh what times. sentimentality aside, though, i'm a little skeptical about starting the new year with hardy.(aaaah! victorians!) a songbird for our times? it seems a little tired and a little too convenient. oh well i hope the year manages to reincarnate 'some blessed hope'
