Peter Parker shuffled into the offices of the Daily Bugle, trying his best not to look disheveled and half-dead. He didn't succeed.
"Parker!" He winced at the sound of his own name, and turned to see the reddening face of J. Jonah Jameson staring at him from his office door. "Get in here." Peter approached the office warily. He'd had a long night, and he didn't like Jameson's tone. Just as he reached the door, it slammed shut in his face.
Unsure of what to do with himself, he knocked.
"Well, what are you waiting for! Get in here, I said!"
Peter opened the door and stepped inside, closing the door behind him. "What is it, Mr Jameson?" he asked, plastering an eager expression on his face.
"Wipe that stupid look off your face and come here." Jameson tapped a newspaper lying on his desk - not the Bugle, but one of their competitors. "We've got a problem. Looks like somebody beat us to the headline. Again." He eyed Peter angrily.
Peter picked up the newspaper, forgetting his fatigue. He stared at the headline, which said simply, "THE AVENGERS!" and below that, "Earth's Mightiest Heroes band together!"
Peter's hands fell limp to his sides, and he stared out the window behind Jameson. "Those jerks!" he finally blurted.
"Exactly! And why weren't you there to catch the event firsthand -"
"They formed a team?" Peter spluttered, completely oblivious to what his boss was saying. He brought the paper up to eye level again, staring at the photo of Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Hulk, Hawkeye, and the Black Widow standing together. "They formed a team!"
"Even worse than Spiderman," Jameson said, shaking his head. "Takes your breath away, dunnit?"
