Not being followed gives me freedom to write whatever I want without caring for the reactions of others, whilst still getting the buzz of posting something online to potentially be seen by others.

This is pretty much how I feel about my journal despite having spent almost ten years on LJ. I think when you feel free, you write your best. It's when you try to please others that you begin to censor your thoughts.
