Last night a documentary maker came to UCLA to show her upcoming PBS documentary LA LUPE: QUEEN OF LATIN SOUL.

I'd criminally never heard of La Lupe before.

It was great.

I have experienced a bit of Celia Cruz--and some more in the documentary. I want to go buy CDs by both of them this weekend. Recommendations?

For La Lupe make sure you get something with "La Tirana".

As far as Celia goes, I'd start with "One Night of Salsa Live"

That documentary aired on PBS a few months ago. Great footage of her on the Dick Cavett show when she's ripping off her shoes and other articles of clothing.
