sometimes you wish that someone, anyone, would have shaken some sense into you, violently and persistently, and made you realise you'll waste your life if you don't follow advice, if you go with your own irresponsibleness ( Read more... )

Although advice is good, I've always found the best way (the only way?) to learn is from your own mistakes.

that sounds all nice and good and such, but in the end, when you've made mistakes with no way back, I've yet to meet anyone who will still say "it is better to learn from your mistakes". That sounds more like a naive luxury than a way of life, because fact is, at one point you can't afford to "learn from the mistakes". In education, if you've made mistakes, there IS no way back, and who wants to give a chance to someone with terrible marks, who says "i've learned by mistakes"? no one. So what if i've learned from my mistakes? Some things you can't repair. Yes, now I have learned to never again do so and so, but I will never have the chance again, I can't rectify the mistakes preventing me from a bright future, so.. what are we left with? Hm.

Knowing what you know now, or in each time, you keep going just, I suppose. Some mistakes may be irreparable, but perhaps that's how they're meant to be learned, and in some profound ways, it may yet prove to how you tread the path before you. It isn't much, and it's some thing you already know within you, or may have had ways to counter, but think trutfully, neutrally, about it, it always comes as it should.

*hugs* I've missed you, by the way.

If I'd had my live journal back on Dec 31, 1999, my post would've said much the same thing. Along with cursing simple minded Norwegian martyr men with mommy complexes (complexi?). Anyway, you get through each day somehow and life goes on. Sometimes it gets better, sometimes it gets worse. But it goes on, despite your best efforts to stop it.
