Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add your journal to my friends list?
Sure! However, unless the journal you're friending me with is an icon journal or community, I won't friend you back. That's what I use my personal journal for. But all my posts here are unlocked, so you'll still be able to see them.
Do you require credit?
Yes. I also like it when you comment to tell me which icon(s) you're taking.
How should I credit you?
Credit me in either your user picture comments or keywords. Credit in your user info is fine if you're very specific about which icons you're crediting. Basically, I need to be able to easily find the credit if I visit your journal.
I credited your icons to lotrjunkie instead of faded_icons. Should I change it?
No, that's fine. There's a link back to faded_icons from my personal journal.
Can I edit your icons?
No, no, no, a thousand times no. You may edit bases if/when they're posted, but icons are never to be edited in any way, shape, or form. And textless icons are not bases.
Can I host your icons on my fansite?
Yes, as long as the following rules are followed:
- you must either comment or email first and ask
- you must host the icons on your own server and not hotlink
- you must provide full credit and a link back to faded_icons on each page where my icons are located
Do you take requests?
Yes, as long as the following rules are followed:
- ask nicely in either a comment or an email
- you must provide me with a picture(s) to use. A URL works nicely. Otherwise, you take what you get.
- the completed request is for your use only
- you must provide credit to faded_icons in your keywords or comments (user info is fine if it's a banner).
- don't pester me about it if I don't have it done in a day or two because I can be fairly busy IRL, but I promise I'm working on it as quickly as I can
- don't ask me to make you an icon/banner that looks just like the ones that "insert name here" makes. If you want one like that, please go ask them.
Will you help me with my layout?
No, sorry. There are plenty of LJ communities, as well as the LJ FAQ for layout help. Frankly, I don't really have the time.
LJ set? What's that?
Simple -- if I make a LJ set, it will always include a header, 1-2 friends only banners, and multiple icons, all designed to be used as a set. Sometimes, I'll also include the codes for the background/font/etc. colors that the set will look best with in your journal.
Would you like to affiliate with my icon journal?

May I nominate your icons at award communities?
By all means, yes. Just let me know where/when. :)
Why haven't you replied to the comments I've left?
Chances are it's because I'm too busy to reply to every comment. I do appreciate them all, but if you're just commenting to tell me which icons you're taking or to say "omg, these are great!!", I'm most likely not going to reply. However, if you have a question about how I may have acheived a certain effect or which font I used, I'll do my best to get you an answer as quickly as possible, but sometimes these things slip through the cracks.
What programs do you use?
PSP7 for all the earlier icons, PSP9 for everything since mid-February 2005. If I'm making a mini-movie or animated gif, I use Animation Shop 3.
What font did you use for that icon?
Best way to find out is to drop me a comment and ask. Just keep in mind that I don't always remember which fonts I've used, so you may get several listed in the answer. At the moment, my favorites (thus the ones used most often) are:
Arial, Arial Black, Univers, Kartika, Tahoma, Palatino Linotype, Georgia, 18th Century, CAC Shishoni Brush, Carpenter ICG, Century Gothic, Haettenschweiler, Motley, Laine Day SH, MS Gothic, MS PGothic, Reznor, Rage Italic, Trajan, Sylfaen, Vivaldi, Vladamir Script, Trebuchet MS, Verdana
Where do you get the screencaps/pictures for your icons?
From a lot of different places. Most of my screencaps come from cap_it and most of my pictures come from various _daily communities. For a full list, check out my resource post.
How did you get that effect?
The best way to find out is to ask. I'll try to explain it as best I can, and who knows...you may get a tutorial out of it. :)
Where can I find your past icons?
Check the memories. I list everything there by person/movie name when I make the posts.
What else do you offer besides icons?
Headers, FO banners, blends, and textures at the moment. In the very near future, though, I'm hoping to have a chance to post some tutorials.
