『甘男子〜あまだん〜』

Yesterday evening, to celebrate my birthday, I went with fencer_x and yomimashou to the opening night of "Amadanshi ~Amadan~" in which Wasshi, as well as Tenimyu actors Mizuta Kouki (Shitenhouji B Oshitari Kenya) and Oota Motohiro (Final Match Ibu Shinji) and future Tenimyu actor Konishi Seiya (Season 2 Fuji Yuuta), appeared. The premise of the show was surrounding a high school sweets-baking club and their attempt to win the national sweets-making competition.

The theatre was the same as the one for Santies, the Haiyuuza Gekijou in Roppongi, which is conveniently right outside one of the exits for Roppongi station. Once we were inside and comfortably seated, we had a chance to take in the set, and... wow. It was as if Easy Bake Oven and Barbie had a love child-- the set was supposed to be a high school classroom, but it was very pink and pastel, with large sweets all over the walls. It was... different to say the least. I took the opportunity to look through my pamphlet... in which Wasshi is sporting his very... Wanizuka-esque beard. This displeases me greatly :< He needs to shave that thing, seriously! But then, soon enough, it was time for the show to be starting...

The play opened with... a musical number. With the main characters dressed as... fruits. Yes. I don't even. Why. Just... why.

That out of the way, then, everyone save for Ichinose Hiromi (Mizuta Kouki) exits. Hiromi seems to have fallen asleep in a classroom after school, and wakes up, bemoaning the fact that he's having dreams about dancing fruits again. He explains that it's his dream to win the national patissier competition, but he has a problem-- high school teams need to be made up of five, and right now, the sweets club (yes, this is apparently a legitimate club activity in this play) is made up of only him. Luckily, in comes Kawakubo Toraji (Washio Noboru), the friendly high school janitor who's apparently close friends with Hiromi, with a suggestion: he ought to go scout people out and get them to join. Hiromi finds this a brilliant idea, and sets into action immediately.

His first victim is Kusano Yuuhei (Konishi Seiya), who later gains the nickname "Hakase" ("doctor", in the sense of someone who has a PhD). Kusano is a member of the science club, and to convince him to join the sweets club, Hiromi explains that baking is a science, in some sense. Hakase is shy and unsure at first, but Hiromi convinces him that the sweets club needs him, and so he agrees to join. Next on the list is Kuriki Satoru (Oota Motohiro), who's a painter in the art club. However, Hiromi successfully convinces him, too, that making sweets is an art, and when he thinks it will get him girls, Satoru also joins the club.

After Satoru, Hiromi approaches Yuki Tomoya (Maeda Goki), from the boxing club. Tomoya is much less receptive to Hiromi's sales pitch, however, mentions that he absolutely hates Hiromi's idol, a chef named Igurashi, and threatens Hiromi when he brings up Tomoya's love of chocolate banana crepes. Hiromi is forced to let it go for a short while, and instead focuses on his final choice: Gen Yoshiki(Akimoto Ryuutarou). Hakase, Satoru, and Toraji are all wowed when Yoshiki proves that he can name the ingredients of a sweet just by eating it, and Hiromi knows having such a tensai on their team would be a great advantage. When Yoshiki finds out he's been scouted for a sweets club, he's reluctant at first, but finally agrees to join the team.

Everyone's happy that they finally have a real team, but at this point Hiromi admits that they need one more member, and he has his eye on Tomoya. The others, especially Hakase, disagree, since Tomoya has a quick temper, but somehow, Hiromi talks them into going to confront him. Hiromi tells him that they need his strength, and a terrified Hakase is forced to help convince him, but eventually, Tomoya caves, saying he'll join only until the end of the competition, and then he's quitting.

At this point, they finally have a full team, hurrah! They put on some chef uniforms and do a nice little song and dance before cooking something up, which turns out to be just amazing (er, no, you get no training montage, I'm sorry). On top of that, they all get along just swimmingly, and seem to spend a lot of time together outside of school, as well. On one such outing, Hiromi has just given everyone fortune cookies as a gift when a shady-looking man appears, causing Yoshiki to clam up and stare at the ground. Turns out he's the sweets team coach for another school and Yoshiki used to be a member there-- but quit and changed schools because the team was treated so brutally. One mistake and they were punished, and it simply wasn't fun anymore. That's why he was hesitant to join the team, but now he's happy, because they're all friends and making sweets is fun again! He refuses to go back to the old school, and the coach, Ootake Souichirou (Masuda Yuki) is forced to leave for now.

The group continues to work towards their goal, and in the process learn that Tomoya's family never had time for him, so he doesn't have any fond Christmas memories. Satoru gets a girlfriend and ditches club, causing much upset, but eventually is convinced to be responsible. Later, Hiromi catches Yoshiki talking to Souichirou again, and when things get stressful at club, blames Yoshiki for sabotaging their refrigerator, which leads to everyone quitting the club. Alone and confused, Hiromi doesn't know what to do, but with help from Toraji, realizes the error of his ways. The day of the event comes, and without a team, Hiromi is about to give up, but luckily, everyone returns, having read the nice messages Hiromi had given them in the fortune cookies, and together, ON THE SPOT, they make a plan and execute their cake.

Then comes time for the judging... and they don't win. They're disheartened, but Hiromi says that it doesn't matter. Then, however, an announcement comes on to say that their cake has been chosen for the SPECIAL AWARD. As a prize, rhey get a trophy and a note from Hiromi's idol Igurashi himself, saying that it's important to always have someone special to share your sweets with. Tomoya is moved, and it turns out Igurashi is his father who never had time for him. Tomoya agrees to stay on with the team for next year as well, and everyone's happy.

So there you have it. XD It was kind of special, but I actually really enjoyed it. Hope the report is amusing at the very least! XD;
