Pairing: JongYu!
Note: started this a while ago and finished it on a whim? haha. and uh, this is my first time attempting JongYu (though, this would really just be one of my firsts writing anything besides Yoosu), so i can't imagine it'd be much good.

"New York City," Jonghyun breathes out. The streets are busy even at nighttime - people racing by in every direction; there's seemingly no end to the rush. Bright lights illuminate the city. Loud, joyous festivities leave no room for silence and it's beautiful. They have a concert scheduled for the next morning, but tonight, they've been given the freedom to explore the place. The city isn't particularly big, but between the foreign signs and the large crowds, he feels small, and just a little misplaced.

"All right, guys," the manager addresses them. "I want you back in the hotel by 11:00. You have a concert tomorrow and I can't risk having you late. So remember. 11:00." He shoots them a threatening look for good measure.

Kibum doesn't try to hide his look of distaste before finally complying, knowing he'd waste more of his time trying to argue with their manager, while the rest nod silently in agreement. "...Fine. I guess that'll have to do. Well then, if you'll excuse me, I must be off. I have some shopping to do." Kibum gives a half-hearted wave, mutters about the insanity of completing all his shopping in the given time, and stalks off to find each store that's been neatly jotted down on his Places-to-Visit list.

"Hm, I'll be at the book store if you need me," Minho informs. Another careless wave and he's gone too. Jonghyun watches Minho's figure walk off into the distance and turns back to ask Taemin if he'd like to go with him to the music store. He discovers empty space, however, where the youngest member had earlier been standing. Some time during all the talking, mainly their manager's, Taemin had managed to slip off unnoticed, and is probably, Jonghyun figures, already engaged in a street dance battle, or something similar to the sort.

"Okay, well I'm heading back to the hotel. Stay out of trouble and don't go out too far. I don't want you getting lost." Their manager takes a final glance at the surrounding shops and people, as if trying to pick out any potential threats, before disappearing into the crowds.

And then, it's just Jinki and him - lost in the twists and turns of New York City. And truthfully, he doesn't want to be found.

"Jonghyun," Jinki calls out, a cup of hot chocolate in each hand and a generous smile decorating his face. Jonghyun mutters a thanks and takes the cup gratefully, relishing in the warmth it brings to his hands. They sip their drinks in silence, and once they finish, Jinki offers to walk with Jonghyun, smile never leaving his face. Jonghyun nods and starts ahead, thinking to himself how Jinki's smile seems to be the brightest thing in the city.

The rest of the members are nowhere in sight as they stroll side by side down the main street, little shops along the road and street performances occasionally catching their eyes.
It's only been ten minutes, and they've stopped twice already, once because Jonghyun spotted a stand selling headphones and he's been meaning to get some new ones, and a second time because Jinki decided that if he didn't get to a restroom right that moment, his bladder would surely explode.

They're now halfway down the long street, and Jonghyun stops a third time to laugh at Jinki, who's somehow tripped over himself in his excitement to get to a certain store selling tofu. It feels different to be standing here in a place thousands of miles away from home without all of the members by his side, but as Jinki grins up at him through his messied bangs, looking incredibly adorable and fail in ways he can't even describe, Jonghyun decides it's not too bad a feeling altogether.

"Hey hyung, look," Jonghyun beckons the leader over to where he's standing in front of the window of a store. His finger's pointed towards a small music box on display, as he gestures for the other man to look.

"Hmm, it's beautiful," Jinki replies, marveling at the details of the object. The music box is a light shade of blue and is rather petite in size, with a relatively simple shape to it, but with intricate designs that embellish the exterior, attracting his attention. Jonghyun stares at it longingly, before he decides that he shouldn't waste the money he's saved up for Kibum's birthday present on a small toy like this. Just as he's moving to leave, Jinki tells him that he sees something he likes in the store and that he would be right back. Jonghyun nods in acknowledgement and waits outside for Jinki.

It's almost fifteen minutes later and Jonghyun's about to go in to look for the other man, when Jinki appears through the doors, one hand stuffed into his jacket pocket. "Sorry I made you wait," Jinki flashes an apologetic smile. Jonghyun easily accepts the apology and gestures towards Jinki's pocket, "Buy anything?"

Jinki looks down at where Jonghyun is pointing to. "Hm? Oh, that? Haha, yeah, I did." Jonghyun waits for him to continue. Jinki looks slightly confused before chuckling lightly when he realizes that Jonghyun wants to know what he bought. "Um... I'll show you later?" Jinki offers.

Jonghyun shrugs and begins to walk down the street again.

Once they'd thoroughly visited each store, nearly bumping into Kibum on the way ("Code red! I repeat, code red! Evil, girly monster headed our way! BlingBling, out." "Run, Bling, run! Ondubu, out."), and given a try to most of the food vendors along the main streets, they discover a small park nearby, with swing sets and all that good stuff. Jonghyun takes a seat on of the swings and Jinki follows.

"Hyung- hyung. Oh god, do you remember when Kibum found out what we did to one of his vintage tees?" Jonghyun laughs loud and unrestrained into the open air.

"Hey, it was an accident," Jinki answers, hands coming up in a defensive stance, though his eyes are cresents and the tips of his smile stretch wide across his face.

"And how often does an accident involve a shirt being cut up so many times, it should be given to Spongebob under the impression of a personalized fit?" Jonghyun chuckles to himself, delighted at the thought of Keybob. He kicks his feet at the ground, giving himself a small push into the air, before swinging to a stop again. Jonghyun sighs contentedly. "Hyung?"

"Hmm?" Jinki replies, looking up at Jonghyun. Jonghyun opens his mouth to say something, but simply closes it and shakes his head, returning his gaze to the ground. Jinki stares curiously at him before remembering something-- "Oh!" He pulls out a small purple bag which he presents to Jonghyun. "Tada!" Jinki smiles and mentally pats himself when Jonghyun takes the bag with a confused expression on his face.

Jonghyun opens the box he finds inside the bag and doesn't try to contain his happiness when he discovers the miniature music box resting in it. And suddenly, he's feeling a bit daring right now. "Jinki?"

"Hmm?" Jinki is a bit surprised at the use of his name, but doesn't make notice of it.

"You're the best." and i love you. He saves those words for another day.

Jinki chuckles. "I know." Jonghyun looks up from the small toy in his hands, and finds Jinki beaming at him. Even out in the darkness, Jinki's smile is just as bright as it was before. Jonghyun think that maybe it's Jinki's smile that's lighting up the whole city.

He watches carefully as Jinki yawns loudly, body moving to a standing position and arms stretching out to the sky.

"Ahh, it feels so nice out here," Jinki announces to the air, turning around to face Jonghyun. "Come on, we should go back. Don't want manager-hyung to freak out right?" He extends a hand to Jonghyun, smile never faltering. Jonghyun shakes his head, grabbing Jinki's hand, and pulls himself up. They walk back to the hotel, hand in hand, laughing like drunkards the whole way through.
