"When you pray, move your feet." Topic 1 for LJIdol

I have always been the type of person to just go with the flow. For example, in high school I made good grades. If I had applied myself I would have probably been in the top five percent of my class instead of the top twenty percent. I was comfortable with just sort of drifting through my life without a whole lot of purpose. As I was an only child ( Read more... )

I really wanted to know more about the car story!

It's a shame your friends weren't more supportive. That must have hurt after you went to such length to support them. I feel like I need to apologize for the rest of us who involve themselves in organized religion - we aren't all like that! But then again I'm from an entirely different religion and not all that organized bout my practice of it. ;-)

Oh, you have no need to apologize. I was raised in a small town in Oklahoma that was super religious, so I was constantly surrounded by people that were like that.

I know that not everyone is like that. I know a lot of people that aren't like that at all, for which I'm grateful for.

As for the car story, I'm sure I'll get the chance to tell it at some point. At least, I hope I do.

I'm sad for you. It's very hard to "lose" a friend, especially as a teenager.

I've realized more and more that, to some extent, some people like you only to the point that you are like them. If you aren't, they aren't interested.

It's very sobering but, at the same time, it motivates me to be a more authentic person and to (to some extent) not take rejection as personally. If someone rejects me because I'm not "part of their group" then I'm not sure I wanted their friendship after all.

I hope you have found true friends in your adult years! I wish you all the best in your life journey.

My friendship with Lacy didn't start because I wanted to be part of her group. It actually started because we sat together in band. She was playing way too loud for the music that we were playing, and it sounded absolutely awful. I simply gave her some advice to tone it down a little bit, and after that we just started talking. She was in a grade below me, so really my group of friends kind of adopted her at first. Though, she became so popular within my group of friends, that she just kind of took over ( ... )

I relate to so much of this. I too was pretty go with the flow, only child that didn't have to put much work in. I didn't have the same relationship with finding religion (I was raised by parents that were both very active in their religions). But I definitely relate to your ending. I am also no longer religious.
